The Manager for Configuration Management is responsible for Managing and optimizing the usage of Northwestel’s infrastructure resources including: capacity management, optimizing system performance and providing configuration intelligence to assist in proactively ensuring that adequate network and OSS (Operational Support Systems) capacity is provided for current and future needs. In addition, this position provides technical support to ensure network needs are: technically feasible, promptly and accurately addressed, tracked and planned through the close interface with Planning with input from Operations and all known business requirements.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
Design and Commissioning of Enhanced HVAC Systems: This involves integrating SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) for real-time control and monitoring.
Provide reports for Power, Generators, and HVAC Systems: Automating reports and updating the FIRM database to assist planner.
Integrate alarm systems with SNMP for Solar Winds: Develop an alarm system that seamlessly integrates with SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) for Solar Winds monitoring.
Provide technical support for capital projects: Assisting new team members in navigating complex capital projects.
Collaborate with Planning Teams: Provide cost estimates, reporting, and technology insights during project planning as well as capacity reporting.
Support IMs in SAP: Assisting team members in learning SAP for capital projects.
Establish Power Installation Standards: Creating guidelines for consistent power installations.
Support Operations: Offering expertise to ensure smooth operations.
Close and Asset Cleanup: Managing the closure of previous year’s projects and optimizing power assets.
Collaborate with Capital Finance and Business Decision Support Teams: Ensuring alignment with financial and strategic goals.
Support All Teams with Power-Related Requests for Projects.
Complete site space and power audits.
Work with Core IP team to establish and re-establish communications with all power and HVAC devices.
New Technology Implementation such as Cycle Charging: Exploring efficient charging methods, Solar Integration: Leveraging solar energy solutions, Green Energy Systems: Investigating fuel cells and super capacitors.
Participates in design reviews and provides input into cut over plans.
Proactively support the management of operational problems through to solution, thus ensuring optimum utilization and performance of assets.
Asset optimization and repurposing.
Predicting and reporting assets replacement requirements based on age, ROI, capacity etc. – this includes ensuring that records are maintained for the various elements of the network to ensure accurate information is maintained for Planning dept, CRTC filings and capacity tracking.
Release Management, including patch management (or) coordination of patches.
Change management (overall coordination of change) on the assets being monitored.
The incumbent is required to keep abreast of new technologies and changes in technologies and identify their training requirements.
KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
Knowledge of the interaction of systems and networks and the impact of changes to one system or network to all others
Strong knowledge of the various networks and systems used throughout the company and keep on top of changes as technology and the telecommunication systems evolve.
Excellent analytical, system performance gathering skills to determine root cause quantification.
Project management skills for effective cut over and release management of the various systems and possess effective customer relationship skills.
Experience with vendor, contractor and/or right-of-way negotiations – and development of related contracts and agreements
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products, SAP and Auto CAD (preferred)
