Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the permanent, full-time position of
Community Recreation Coordinator in the Recreation Programming division of Parks & Recreation at the Dartmouth North Community Centre.

The Community Recreation Coordinator (CRC) is responsible for the delivery of municipal recreation programs which includes the development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of drop-in and seasonal recreation programs, as well as managing a team of seasonal casual staff. Develop and implement special events, promotional materials, and participate in business unit projects. The CRC is the lead on day-to-day operations of the HRM owned and operated facility which includes reporting issues pertaining to maintenance and safety.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the delivery of Recreation Services offered at the Dartmouth North Community Centre
- Manage recreation administrative processes to support the delivery of recreation services, including the daily drop-in, group fitness and recreation programs
- Recruit, lead, train, evaluate and where applicable, make recommendations to Area Manager on disciplinary action
- Prepare marketing, promotional materials relating to the delivery of recreation programs and services
- Ensure the delivery of Recreation Services follow occupational health and safety, and WHMIS guidelines
- Mitigate risks associated with the delivery of recreation services
- Provide quality customer service and safeguard municipal assets
- Manage resources appropriately and allocated budget resources effectively
- Support recreation-based community development initiatives
- Other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Recreation Degree, a degree that includes course work in program planning, program evaluation, budgeting, community development, or a Leadership diploma in a related field of education
- Minimum five years' progressive management experience in a municipal recreation delivery system
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
- Demonstrated understanding of youth engagement and community development principals
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of the High Five Quality Assurance System considered an asset
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of Human Resource Principles
- Demonstrated understanding of recreation and physical activity trends
- Proficient in software/technology relevant to business Unit (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, Outlook, SAP, Legend)
- Experience with youth programming considered an asset
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check. (Including a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.)

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm; 35 hours per week
SALARY: $41.26 per hour; Level 9 as per the collective agreement between HRM and NSGEU Local 222.
WORK LOCATION: Dartmouth North Community Centre; 105 Highfield Park Drive, Dartmouth.
