As the Head of R&D Protontherapy Systems at IBA, you will oversee our Systems Engineering teams, ensuring the successful development and integration of our cutting-edge proton therapy solutions.
You will contribute to and execute the vision and strategy of the proton therapy business unit (BU) and enable its long-term success by ensuring that system components are future-proof, reliable, and efficient.

Talent Development and Team Leadership: Lead and manage teams of high-performing teams of systems architects, requirements engineers, verification engineers, technical standards experts and technical writers’ specialists. Identify the skills and talent needed to meet current and future challenges, foster professional development, and cultivate a culture of continuous improvement within the teams. By nurturing your talent pool, you will ensure the systems engineering function remains resilient, adaptable, and capable of handling the rapid technological advancements in proton therapy.
Challenge User’s Requirements: Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and critically evaluate user requirements, ensuring alignment with project goals and quality attributes.
Define and develop System Architecture: Guide the creation of comprehensive system architectures, breaking them down into modules based on needs, objectives, and quality attributes (x-ities) to develop optimal technical solutions, while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory standards.
Flow Down & Requirements Definition: Oversee the translation of system architecture into detailed system requirements. Ensure the specification of functional and non-functional requirements, as well as external interfaces for each module.
System Integration & Verification: Lead the development and implementation of a robust verification and validation strategy for the system. Supervise the integration and verification of modules in the factory, including stubbed modules. Manage the on-site integration and verification of modules before their release into clinical environments.
Maintain Configuration: Ensure rigorous configuration management practices across all system components, safeguarding the integrity and traceability of all changes throughout the product’s lifecycle. Oversee configuration management at the module level to ensure consistency and traceability, including maintaining and updating system configurations as new requirements or improvements arise.
What we value
Educational Background: Master’s or Ph.D. in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
Experience: At least 10 years of experience in R&D leadership roles, with a strong background in systems architecture, integration, and verification within complex and safety-critical environments. Prior experience in the healthcare or medical device industry is a significant asset.
Technical Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering, from requirements management to architecture design, system integration, and verification. Proven ability to manage both hardware and software components in regulated environments is essential.
Strategic Leadership: Strong experience in leading and executing R&D strategies within a high-tech environment. Ability to translate long-term business objectives into effective engineering plans and deliver impactful results.
