Communications Internship

WHO WE ARE
Salzburg Global Seminar is an independent non-profit organization founded in 1947 with a mission to challenge current and future leaders to shape a better world. Together with our world-spanning network of 40,000 Fellows, we have been at the forefront of global movements for change for 75 years, with significant impact on individuals, institutions, and systems.

Whether at our home of Schloss Leopoldskron, online, or in locations around the world, our programs are inclusive, interdisciplinary, international and intergenerational. They are designed to provide a global lab for innovation and transformation. We convene cohorts of passionate changemakers across diverse fields and backgrounds. We develop and curate networks that support collaboration, share innovations with new audiences, and expand our impact by working with partners around the globe.

We are supported by a combination of institutional partnerships, generous individual donations and revenue generated from our social enterprise, Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron. We seek to be an exemplary international institution in terms of equity and environmental sustainability. We strongly encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply and join us in our work.

WHAT WE OFFER

The internships are full-time, for a maximum period of three months. Although the position is not paid, we will provide the successful candidate with:
  • board and lodging at Schloss Leopoldskron,
  • a return ticket for their country of origin,
  • excellent networking opportunities with the international participants of our programs.
Internship start dates for the Communications Internships are available in:
  • mid-January,
  • early February,
  • mid-April,
  • early May,
  • early July,
  • early September,
  • late September.
Should your application be successful, we will provide the exact dates on completion of the internship offer. Due to program scheduling and accommodation reasons, we do not accommodate internship requests outside these fixed periods.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

As an integral part of the Communications team, you will be telling compelling stories about the impact of Salzburg Global’s programs. Your work will span across our website, print publications, social media platforms, and external media partners.

The Communications team works on every Salzburg Global program. As a result, you will gain exposure to a broad range of topics and experts, which will help expand your knowledge and networks. You will also assist in other internal and external communications, providing you with experience beyond journalistic writing and across all the typical communications outputs of a non-profit organization.

Typical duties include:

  • Writing both quick-turn-around and in-depth interviews and features for Salzburg Global.org, program reports, and external media partners’ publications;
  • Conducting in-person (during programs) and online (post-program) interviews with Fellows and donors;
  • Helping to produce multimedia content for Salzburg Global’s social media and digital platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linked In, You Tube);
  • Researching Salzburg Global Fellows after they have participated in a Salzburg Global program and tracking their work;
  • Maintaining the digital assets and publications libraries and assisting with worldwide mailing distribution;
  • Providing administrative assistance to the Communications team.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You have recently completed or are in the process of completing a Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field like communications, public relations, or digital marketing. Significant journalistic/writing and content production work experience outside of degree studies (e.g., with a college newspaper or agency internship) will be considered for those with non-journalistic academic backgrounds.
  • You have experience working in the media, particularly producing written and multimedia content;
  • You have demonstrable knowledge of international affairs covered by Salzburg Global Seminar’s program areas;
  • You are enthusiastic about our mission;
  • You have a can-do attitude, are able to multi-task, are proactive, and willing to work flexible hours according to the running program’s needs;
  • You have excellent (native or equivalent) writing and communication skills in English, including editing skills;
  • You thrive in culturally and professionally diverse environments;
  • You are proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point). Prior experience with Adobe Creative Suite (particularly In Design and Photoshop), web CMS and multimedia editing is also highly desirable.
Note: German language skills are not required.

Salzburg Global is an equal opportunity employer. We aim to be an exemplary international institution in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion of our workforce. We strongly encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds (including communities of color, the LGBT* community and people with disabilities) to apply and join us in our work.

Our Internship Program is specially designed for young professionals.

If you are under 18, sign up to our newsletter for upcoming internship opportunities and please wait for a couple of years before sending us your application.
If you are over 30 years old, please share the opportunity with your younger peers and consider applying for one of our programs instead.

Only complete applications via the online form will be considered, meaning it should include a CV, a cover letter and three writing samples.

We will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis.
Selected applicants will be asked to complete an interview call.
All candidates, successful or otherwise, will be informed of the outcome of their application. No phone calls please.
