An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified General Surgeon to join the medical team at South East Regional Hospital a Level 4 Health Facility based in the Bega Valley, part of the Southern NSW - Coastal Network.

Bega - 429 kilometres south of Sydney, 228 kilometres from Canberra or 174 kilometres from the NSW Snow fields. Nearby Merimbula (32 kilometres) offers a regional airport with a short 55 minute flight to Sydney and daily flights to Melbourne. Your Opportunity:
- Provide best practice evidence-based specialist general surgery clinical services to achieve quality patient outcomes
- Provide high level care to surgical patients, managing elective surgery and emergency surgery presentations, attending specialist clinics, in patient referrals and patients admitted through the Emergency Department
- Ensure all clinical documentation is completed contemporaneously, including in assessment and plans within the electronic medical record, operative notes and other relevant documentation such as discharge summaries and death certificates
- Undertake supervision and education within the clinical environment of medical students, junior medical staff and other relevant staff to foster safe clinical practice
- Utilise information systems to enable informed decision making and care planning.
- Ensure communication with patients and their carers, such that they are involved in their care and aware of the purpose of the plans for their care
- Communicate with staff and clinicians to ensure quality and continuity of care.
- Engages in practices that promote the best possible health outcomes for patients/clients, and supports a culture of patient safety, clinical quality and innovation.
- Actively participate in clinical governance and quality programs and risk management to improve organisational processes and own practices.
- Work within a defined scope of clinical practice and within the service capability/role delineation of the service
- Comply with relevant legislation and regulations, NSW Ministry of Health policies and SNSWLHD procedures to assist in meeting Activity Based Funding, Commonwealth and State targets
- Engages in practices that promote the best possible health outcomes for patients/clients, and supports a culture of patient safety, clinical quality and innovation.

Selection Criteria:
- Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist General Surgeon and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
- Demonstrated recent clinical experience in General Surgery at the role delineation of the service.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
- Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
- Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time

This is a Category ‘A’ position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015. All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.
