About this opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate an experienced Leading Hand Cemeteries to lead and mentor a small team in delivering exceptional grounds maintenance services across our cemetery sites. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our cemeteries are maintained to a high standard, while also providing a compassionate service to the public.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise a small team to carry out grounds’ maintenance and grave-digging activities in cemeteries.
  • Operate and maintain various plant and equipment associated with grounds maintenance, including mowers, diggers, and other machinery.
  • Accurately follow cemetery plans, maps, and layouts, ensuring all record-keeping is precise and up to date.
  • Provide respectful and empathetic service to grieving families and the general public during sensitive interactions.
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely and in line with council policies and procedures.


Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role, ideally in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or a related field.
  • Practical experience in the use of plant and equipment for grounds maintenance and grave-digging.
  • Strong map reading and record-keeping skills, with attention to detail.
  • Empathy and excellent communication skills when dealing with members of the public, particularly in sensitive situations.
  • A positive and proactive attitude, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Current Light Rigid (LR) Class driver’s licence.


Desirable Qualifications

  • Qualification in Horticulture or related field
  • Certificate III in Funeral Services
