Facilities Maintenance Assistant
Come and work as a vital member of our Technical Services team here at Mareeba Shire Council, located within an easy one-hour drive from Cairns offering a regional lifestyle with all its benefits in relatively close proximity to Cairns.
The role:
Our Facilities Maintenance Assistant is responsible for general maintenance, mowing and rubbish collection at various depots, aerodromes and facilities in the Mareeba area. This position provides assistance to the Facilities Tradesperson as required.
The role involves physically demanding work to be undertaken in a hot and humid climate on a daily basis. As such, it is the responsibility of our Facilities Maintenance Assistant to ensure they are physically fit and able to efficiently and consistently undertake these tasks. This includes a requirement to maintain their weight at or below the Safe Working Load (SWL) for the seat of the machinery and equipment they will be required to operate.

What we are looking for:
- You will not shy away from undertaking manual handling and labouring duties for extended periods, sometimes in hot and humid conditions
- You will work well in a small team environment and be able to work with limited supervision
- You will have sound oral and written communication skills
- You will have a good understanding of the suitable selection and use of relevant construction tools and materials
- You will have an understanding of construction and maintenance methods and be able to identify and troubleshoot problems
- You will be able to apply safe work practices including manual handling techniques, operating power tools and follow WHS procedures and policies
What we can offer you:
- Permanent, full-time position
- LGEA Level 3 – $58,234 per annum
- Mareeba Allowance of $2,080 per annum and other allowances as applicable
