Disability Support Worker

Job Description
National Disability and Community Services (NDCS) is seeking a compassionate and experienced Disability Support Worker to join our team. In this role, you will provide support and assistance to clients with disabilities, as well as those facing age-related challenges and mental health issues, within a community setting.

Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional support and counselling to clients with mental health issues.
  • Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management.
  • Monitor and document clients' progress, reporting significant changes to healthcare professionals.
  • Coordinate with the healthcare team to ensure comprehensive client care.
  • Advocate for clients' rights and ensure access to necessary resources.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical and legal standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Certificate III in Individual Support, Mental Health, Aged Care, Community Services, or Disability Work (or higher).
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Manual Handling Certificate
  • Working With Children Check
  • NDIS Worker Check
  • Completion of NDIS modules (Orientation, New Worker Induction, Supporting Effective Communications, Supporting Safe and Enjoyable Meals).
  • Valid driver's license with vehicle registration and insurance
  • Infection Control Certificate
  • Medication Certificates
  • Diabetes Certificate.
Competencies and Experience
  • Minimum of 1 to 3 months in a similar role, preferably supporting individuals with disabilities.
  • Proficient written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize caseload.
  • Commitment to professional development, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.
  • Previous support work experience in Disability is desirable.
  • Reliability, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
  • Problem-solving skills and creative thinking.
  • Competent in using smartphones and relevant apps.
  • Availability for mandatory training and flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends.
