- Perform pre-analytical processes consistently and accurately, by maintaining focus and competence in the various areas within the work unit. Cross-training in other areas of the Core Laboratory will be required.
- Develop knowledge and expertise in handling specimens through active learning within the team and by engaging in professional development activities.
- Train and develop more junior members of the team.
- Participate in quality and service improvement activities to continually improve patient care.
- To work with independence and professionalism and demonstrate sound problem-solving skills.
- Work cooperatively and communicate effectively within the team and with clients, both internal and external to the laboratory.

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following-
- This is a modern laboratory with a positive culture and a high performing team, so qualities of resilience, well-developed communication skills and ability to contribute positively to a team environment are essential. (Central Specimen Reception Team > 50 staff)
- Experience in or the ability to rapidly learn pathology pre-analytical processes, e.g. sorting, coding, data entry, aliquoting, parcel management, storage, retrieval of specimens etc, in a large and complex core laboratory unit.
- Proven ability to solve problems and show initiative in the workplace.
- Proven ability to manage time effectively in a highly process driven environment with competing priorities.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to focus in a busy, complex environment.
- Highly developed customer focus with experience dealing with a variety of people and a high level of awareness of impact of the individual on the overall customer experience.
- Understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification.
- Awareness of the human resource management policies applicable to contemporary workplaces.
Qualifications registrations and other requirement's:
- Nil mandatory qualifications are required for this role although a Certificate III Pathology (or similar) or ability to gain this qualification is desirable.
- The Central Core Laboratory delivers a 24-hour, 7-day service. In this workplace, all newly appointed Core Laboratory staff are contracted to work any rostered shift within the 24-hour 7-day roster period, including overtime as required. This facilitates the progressive review of staffing and shift arrangements in the Core Laboratory to accommodate changes in workload and service requirements.
