About the Opportunity
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the CAMHS team as a Aboriginal Mental Health Wellbeing Worker, where you will be responsible for:
  • Contribute to the delivery of programs for Aboriginal children and young people within the WCHN APY Lands Integrated Model of Care (IMOC).
  • Provide cultural advice and guidance to both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal workforce within CAMHS.
  • Support improvements in the quality and distribution of services across CAMHS and within the APY Lands team.
  • Address the mental health and wellbeing needs of Aboriginal children, young people, and their families through running programs and supporting clinicians.
  • Offer timely cultural advice to multidisciplinary staff to enhance care delivery.
  • Ensure quality services for children, adolescents, and families experiencing complex social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties.
  • Work effectively within a multidisciplinary and interagency team context.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Knowledge of philosophy and practice particularly as it relates to the provision of social and emotional/mental health services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children, young people and their families
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and understand cultural safety within APY IMo C team by raising awareness and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures as well as factors, such as government policies, that affect mental health/wellbeing outcomes for children, young people and families
  • Ability to negotiate the boundaries of safe practice and know when to refer to other professional disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging and establishing relationships with Aboriginal children and young people to enable their needs to be met
  • Experience in contributing to mental health assessment and therapeutic interventions for Aboriginal children and young people by providing cultural knowledge and advice.
  • Demonstrated experience working in social and emotional/mental health services and/or other relevant community services, and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated experience running programs in social and emotional/mental health context.
  • Have a Car license and be okay flying in planes.
  • Willingness to drive in remote locations and for long distances.
