Compliance & Enforcement Division monitor and assess risk to enhance compliance through effective regulatory intervention, ranging from education to enforcement which will ultimately safeguard our economy, trade, environment and agriculture.
The
Audit and Assurance Group is a branch within the department that manages departmental auditors, competent across commodities, in order to provide high quality regulatory audits to clients. Nationally, this team provides regulatory audits and other assurance activities to manage the compliance of import and export registered establishments, industry Authorised Officers and entities operating under Approved Arrangements.
Regulatory Assurance Operations performs assurance activities to provide confidence about how effectively and efficiently departmental systems, activities and measures are managing regulatory risks and protecting our pest and disease-free status.
The Job
The APS6 Assurance Operations Manager will assist in undertaking assurance activities that provide an independent, holistic view of controls and measures across biosecurity risk pathways. The role ensures that legislation, policies, procedures, and operational activities complement each other while effectively addressing risks. Additionally, the role supports the governance around these activities, ensuring that our regulatory systems are robust and efficient.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Assist in planning and scoping assurance activities to provide insights and confidence to senior executives and staff about the effectiveness of our regulatory systems.
- Maintain productive working relationships across the department to gather information and evidence for assurance activities.
- Utilise strong analytical skills to gather and analyse complex data, preparing reports and advice for senior executives and governance committees.
- Provide administrative and coordination support, including secretariat duties for meetings, briefings, and workshops.
- Maintain a strong understanding of relevant legislation and policy frameworks, staying aware of changes in the broader work environment that may impact work objectives.
- Contribute to reporting against key performance standards, monitoring team performance and ensuring service delivery standards are met.
- Lead, mentor, and collaborate with staff within the team to produce high-quality work within agreed timeframes.
Knowledge and experience
- Experience in a regulatory environment or in an assurance capacity would be of benefit.
