GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Real Estate Accountant will serve as the primary liaison between the Construction division (PSI - Project Manager) and the owner (Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico) and project manager’s finance teams. This role demands a seasoned accountant with substantial experience in handling complex construction projects, ensuring that all financial transactions are meticulously documented and aligned with the project's goals. The successful candidate will bring a deep understanding of construction accounting principles and practices, contributing to the overall financial health and compliance of the organization.
TASKS AND ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Generate, review, and present comprehensive financial reports to the BGCPR Chief Financial Officer, Project Manager and other key stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Responsible for the full accounting cycle of the project.
- Maintain and update the general ledger with audit adjustments as necessary.
- Conduct detailed analysis of construction project costs and budgetary allocations, ensuring that all financial data is accurate and up to date.
Liaison Duties:
- Act as the key point of contact between the Project Manager and the Boys & Girls Clubs finance team, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration.
- Monitor and report on the financial performance of construction projects, highlighting any areas of concern or opportunity.
Audit & Compliance:
- Coordinate with external auditors, providing them with necessary information and ensuring compliance with audit requirements.
- Implement changes as required by audit findings and ensure that financial records adhere to regulatory standards.
Cash Flow & Budget Management:
- Ensure that the cash flow is adequate to meet the needs of the construction projects, making recommendations to the Chief Financial Officer as needed.
- Oversee the preparation and monitoring of construction project budgets, ensuring alignment with overall financial strategies.
Supervision & Training:
- Provide guidance and direction to accounting staff, setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
- Identify and address the developmental needs of team members, offering training and mentoring to enhance their skills.
- Lead and mentor accounting team members, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and objectives.
- Coordinate work schedules and assignments based on project priorities and team members' skills.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with a strong emphasis on construction projects.
Skills & Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of construction accounting principles, including cost accounting and project budgeting.
- Proficiency in financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, and auditing processes.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively liaise between different departments.
- Familiarity with accounting software and systems used in the construction industry.
Additional Requirements:
- Strong understanding of legal and regulatory requirements related to construction and real estate accounting.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while managing multiple tasks and deadlines
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Normal internal office environment with some travel to Club locations across Puerto Rico. Availability to engage funders on evenings and weekends are a core part of this position. Frequent internal contacts with employees throughout organization required.
