Summary
Assists skilled construction workers in performing their assigned duties. Laborer may be assigned to one specific task or may be transferred from task to task as a project progresses to completion. Tasks are generally unskilled manual duties.
Follows specific work orders as given by skilled construction worker or foreman. Cleans tools, equipment, materials and specified work areas as needed. Transports needed tools, equipment and materials to/from and around work site. Loads and unloads materials from company truck by hand or with an assisting device such as a forklift. Performs variety of tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools. I.E. demolishing structures, dismantling forms, cutting insulation material, removing concrete. Digs spreads and levels dirt, gravel and sand.
Essential Functions
1. Follows specific work orders as given by a skilled construction worker or foreman.
2. Cleans tools, equipment, materials and specified work areas as needed.
3. Digs, spreads and levels dirt, gravel, sand, etc.
4. Mixes, spreads and pours concrete, asphalt, gravel or other ground surfaces.
5. Transports needed tools, equipment and material to/from and around work site. Loads and unloads materials from company truck by hand or with an assisting device such as a forklift.
6. Erects and disassembles scaffolding.
7. Sprays materials such as sand, water, steam or paint through a hose to clean, coat or seal surfaces.
8. Grinds, sands or polishes surfaces using tools and machines.
9. Measures distance for various jobs i.e., grade stakes, cutting material, etc.
10. Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of machinery or materials.
11. Positions, joins, aligns and seals pipe sections.
12. Applies caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal crevices.
13. Performs variety of tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools i.e., demolishing structures, sawing lumber, dismantling forms, cutting insulation material and removing projections from concrete.
