A Transportation Aide/Agency Assistance employee is responsible for monitoring children on buses that are transported to and from the facility. The position performs a variety of duties in support of and in assistance to the agency. The position reports to the Assistant Director Business as well as takes direction from the Facility and Fleet Coordinator and Assistant Director Special Education. Classification: Non-Exempt Salaried Environmental Conditions The position requires working on a bus, outdoors, and indoors. Working in confined areas at times is required. The position requires the ability to remain calm and professional in an environment with frequent interruptions. The position requires the ability to withstand moderate to high noise levels from office equipment, adults and children. The position requires the ability to be alert, flexible and professional at all times. Individual must be able to tolerate moderate to high levels of mental and emotional stress. The position requires working in occasional conditions which could pose potential health risks; individual must be capable of assessing situations and responding with appropriate precautions. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The position requires the ability to lift children or equipment up to 40 pounds unassisted and over 40 pounds with assistance. The position requires extensive movements including sitting, stooping, crouching, grasping, holding and moving from point to point. Position also requires the ability to participate in various floor activities. The individual must possess an acceptable current Infant/Child CPR card and First Aid card or be willing and able to obtain each within three months of employment. The individual must pass a child abuse/neglect Central Registry check, sex offender, and criminal background screening and fingerprinting. The individual must pass a tuberculin (TB) risk assessment within 30 days of employment. The individual must possess the ability to multitask and manage tasks efficiently to meet deadlines. The individual must possess the ability to communicate in a pleasant and professional manner, both verbally and written, and to be able to interact with a diverse group of individuals in a courteous and tactful manner in order to establish and maintain effective relationships. The individual must have the ability to learn appropriate policies and practices within a reasonable amount of time. The individual must possess the ability to maintain the confidentiality of program/client information. The position requires the demonstration of self-initiation in performing above responsibilities as well as the ability to carry out those responsibilities with minimal direct supervision. The individual must complete all required DFS STARS credits each year following all DFS child care rules and regulations. This position requires: the ability to communicate with children and adults, the ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team, and the ability to construct and maintain a safe and healthy environment. The position requires the demonstration of self-initiation in performing responsibilities with minimal supervision. Required Education/Certification and Experience A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. One year of experience working with preschool children with developmental disabilities is preferred. Specific Essential Duties 80% Perform Transportation Aide duties as assigned monitoring children who are transported on the buses to and from the facility. Help children on to and off the bus while also making sure the bus ride is safe and enjoyable for the children. Ensure children reach their classroom destinations upon arriving at the facility and ensure they safely reach their drop off destinations. 20% Perform Agency Assistance which may include classroom substituting supporting Preschool Teachers, ECSE Teachers and Related Service Providers in implementing the regular curriculum, specialized instruction and related services when in a classroom; 1X1 duties with specific children following direction of the Assistant Director Special Education and classroom team; assisting with classroom maintenance and material prep for Teachers, ECSEs and Related Service Providers; assisting Office Staff with various office duties.
