JOB SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse (RN) reports to the Project Manager (PM) and is clinically supervised by the medical providers within the Occupational Health Services (OHS) vertical. The RN provides healthcare services in the on-site Occupational Health Clinic (OHC) at Plum Island Animal Disease Center (PIADC). The clinic serves Federal and commercially contracted employees, temporary visitors, and Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostician (FADD) school students. The RN is responsible for providing healthcare services within the RN scope of practice and in accordance with contractual and regulatory guidelines. Medical services include urine drug collection, respirator fit testing, audiometry, spirometry, electrocardiogram, vision screening, administering vaccines, etc. This is a full-time position and hours may vary based on project requirements. The RN is scheduled to report to the PIADC facility as scheduled. Candidate must be within commuting distance to the Plum Island NY area. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide occupational health services within the RN scope of practice.
Clinical skills include ability to obtain vital signs, specimen collection (phlebotomy / urine), vision screening, audiometric testing, pulmonary function testing, electrocardiogram, and respirator fit testing as needed.
Manages blood serum banking (including storage and destruction) in accordance with PIADC policies and procedures and oversees destruction of samples, as required.
Serve as primary certified urine drug collector and is responsible for preparing and shipping specimens to the designated testing center.
Serves as the primary vaccine coordinator.
Provide vaccinations and coordinates travel medicine consultations for employees traveling to foreign countries on official business.
Provide RN care for walk-in consultation and incidental first aid and minor care in accordance with medical recommendations and standing orders.
Refer examinees to medical providers for consultation as needed.
Maintains examinee’s medical data, including health history, results of physical examination and diagnostic results.
Prepares examinee’s charts for final medical assessment by the reviewing physician.
Assist in developing, implementing, and updating all standing orders and medical policies and procedures.
Assist with the managing of daily medical operations and prioritizing tasks as needed.
Schedule staff medical surveillance appointments and tracks completion of requirements of Occupational Health and Safety Program (e.g. medical exams, training).
Procures and maintains inventories of medical supplies.
Coordinates medical services and is the liaison between Acuity International’s network clinics and PIADC’s workforce.
Organizes and coordinates on the job training program and maintains task orientation competency checklist for all new employees.
Participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality outcomes.
Documents and sets objectives and long-term goals for the OHC.
Coordinate health and wellness initiatives.
Develop, interpret, and submit required performance reports.
Administration of vaccines (e.g., influenza, tetanus, hepatitis A & B, etc.) accordance with medical protocols.
Coordinate medical consultations for “return to work” clearances following occupational health injury, illness, or surgical procedure.
Maintain all health records in accordance with privacy laws, medical protocols, and Acuity International and the Department of Homeland (DHS) policies.
Assist with developing and enforcing policies, procedures, process flows, clinical standing orders, practice protocols, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
Ensure quality clinical care in accordance with all legal, compliance, and regulatory requirements set forth by the Federal and State requirements.
Ensure compliance with regulations, guidelines, and industry standards.
Exercise exceptional attention to detail.
Maintain a solid understanding of the specific contract’s guidelines, requirements, and addendums.
Collaborate with the OHC team of medical providers, nurses, clinical coordinator, and administrative staff for efficient project management.
Maintains all relevant and required certifications and professional licenses.
Ensures health information security and privacy when managing medical data, including health history, physical examination, and diagnostic results.
Complies with all applicable Acuity International standards and guidelines.
Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality outcomes, communicate challenges, and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, updated task efforts, and recent requirements.
Consults with onsite physician and Acuity International corporate team when appropriate.
Ensures clinical and medical practices are aligned with Acuity International practices as well as professional standards and ethics, regulations and guidelines, best practices, and evidence-based principles.
Develop and maintain competencies, standing orders, and standard operating procedures to comply with project requirements.
Builds and maintains relationships with colleagues and clients.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience working as a Registered Nurse.
Degree in Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)
Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse school.
Maintain a current unencumbered active RN license in New York State.
Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) or Certified Occupational Health Nurse- Specialist (COHN-S). OR Must be able to successfully complete COHN or COHN-S within one year and six months following hire date.
Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
The ability to be favorably credentialed according to Acuity International standards, policies, and guidelines.
Ability to pass a background check and investigation conducted by the Department of Homeland Security.
Excellent communication skills including public speaking.
Have fluent oral and written communication skills in English.
Possesses essential self-starting and self-discipline skills.
Effective telephone and computer skills.
Experience with Microsoft Office products is required.
Eight (8) years of clinical experience working as a Registered Nurse (preferred).
Degree in Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) (preferred).
Experience in occupational healthcare is highly preferred.
