Program Support Assistant (Direct Support Professional / DSP )
Program Support Assistant Job Description We are looking for an enthusiastic Program Support Assistant (PSA) to undertake a variety of supportive roles at the Toneworks Music Therapy and its comprehensive programming. You will be working with participants in our Therapeutic Learning Center during their daily programming. During this time, you will assist participants in becoming independent in their routines at the program as well as working on functional skills by modeling and supporting needs. To be an excellent PSA, you must be creative, be intuitive to individual behavior within a group environment, and know how to be flexible with the idea that success looks different for everyone. The goal of this position is to offer hands-on assistance to participants, but also be a mentor and role model for sustainable relationships and community integration. Responsibilities A Program Support Assistant (PSA), is responsible for helping participants develop and improve their ability to complete everyday tasks related to their job and daily life. This could include modeling using adaptive technology, coaching through therapeutic activities, and improving self-esteem through leisure skills. It also includes the following:
Assist participants in using adaptive equipment
Model participation in activity and encourage participation as desired
Offer input and ideas for program curriculum and activities
Keep the space free of hazards and in a comfortable environment
Support the needs of individual clients, while also monitoring the group to support clients as needed to ensure meaningful engagement
Escorts individuals for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and safe arrival to and/or from a destination.
Utilize de-escalation strategies (offering choices, breaks, etc.) with clients when dysregulated
Support personal care needs of individuals (e.g. bathrooming, handwashing, feeding etc.)
Engage with client even in non-structured activities
Create schedules, communication boards, and adaptive materials for participants
Support activity leaders with engaging clients and support with cleaning up after activities
Requirements
Knowledge of program management and development procedures
Ability to work with diverse and multi-disciplinary teams
Excellent time-management and organizational skills
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
Available Monday-Friday from 8:00AM-3:00PM or 7:30AM-2:30PM
