Job Summary
The Painter performs painting duties such as preparation work and matching of paint colors. Maintenance employees work a 4/10 schedule with weekends and holidays off. Job Requirements
The following are required:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of three years of experience within the past five years as a painter, including tape floating and preparation work.
- Must obtain an Alaska class B commercial driver’s license with a general knowledge test endorsement within 6 months of hire.
- Must possess an Alaska hazardous paint certificate.

The following are preferred:
- Knowledge of current methods and procedures, materials, tools, trim-out, and cut-in methods.
- Knowledge of the safety procedures appropriate to the painting craft trade, including, but not limited to, the use and maintenance of power and hand tools, including airless sprayers.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mixing, blending, and matching colors in a production-oriented painting unit.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs painting craft trade duties including tape floating, preparation work, mixing, blending, and matching paint colors.
- Paints using current tools such as rollers, brushes, airless sprayers and other hand and power tools.
- Uses current methods and processes for trim-out and cut-in and other tasks.
- Routinely works at heights over 20 feet.
- Works cooperatively with others within established maintenance procedures.
- Writes reports as required.
Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.
While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
