Merchandise Coordinator

Merchandise Coordinator
Hillcrest Hope is seeking an enthusiastic and fun-loving Merchandise Coordinator to provide supervision, oversight and management of agency’s thrift store operations to generate revenues in support of agency administration & programs. The Merchandise Coordinator works with volunteers, oversees departments, store operations, promotion of the store in the community, and inventory controls. The Merchandise Coordinator works closely with the management team, volunteers, and staff, to ensure we are maximizing revenue from donations received.
1. Store Management & Merchandising a. Assist in the development and implementation of written procedures for store operations, including procedures for accepting, sorting, pricing donations; training volunteers in departments, and other relevant procedures as needed. b. Works alongside volunteers and provides training to new volunteers, processing of donated items, manages the rotation of items and the disposal of donated items in a timely fashion. i. Processes include sorting, tagging, displaying, and disposing of donated items, providing leadership to staff and volunteers; sets standards for merchandise and communicates same. ii. Follows all store policies and procedures and guides volunteers with the needs of the store. c. Have retail experience and familiarity with using point-of-sale (POS) systems. d. Effectively manage and supervise retail store activities, such as inventory and quality control, and volunteer motivation. e. Maintain and increase knowledge of resale, thrift, consignment, and retail trends through daily reading (e-mail list serves, publications) and participation in webinars, staff meetings, and periodic offsite training. f. Participation in training for all applicable departments, plus performance and quality improvement efforts. g. Collaborate and develop strategies with the Store manager to improve sales, improve marketing, research other relatable material to meet current/future goals for the store. h. Responsible for store operations: opening and closing of the store. i. Completes deposits accurately and on time. j. Monitoring store supplies and other store needs for daily operations.
2. Agency Management a. Collaborates and communicates with all Hillcrest Hope staff and volunteers to remain consistent in policies and procedures regarding item and volunteer solicitation. b. Adheres to all agency policies and procedures. c. Completes and submits all required and assigned paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
3. Volunteer Management a. Leader in developing volunteers. b. Assists in the supervision of volunteers under store manager’s direct supervision. c. Assesses the store’s need for staff and volunteers. d. Develops daily planning, assesses departments, and where the needs are. Prioritize work and goals for the day and help with volunteer placement. Trains and supervises store volunteers; helps with the growth and retention of volunteers. e. Provides clear communication with volunteers in a positive team atmosphere. f. Conducts regularly scheduled communications with staff/volunteers to provide direction, guidance, and oversight for back of house support. g. Consults with staff/volunteers on a regular basis, addressing concerns and sharing ideas. h. Provides timely direction and written and verbal feedback to volunteers and staff.
i. Monitors volunteers and provides guidance with store objectives, price points, and merchandising goals. j. Assists in volunteer training in agency policies and procedures. k. Liaise between customers and volunteers.
4. Marketing & Promotion a. Oversees the display of merchandise inside the store to enhance the appearance and appeal of the store, under the direction of the Store Manager. b. Maintains and increases knowledge in current sales trends, merchandise, and merchandising displays.
5. Customer Service a. Provide service to internal and external customers according to standards and ensures staff and volunteers follow same standards. b. Promote excellence in the customer service experience for all visitors to the thrift store. c. Must be a team player who is eager to work with a variety of people in a helpful, positive manner.
6. Experience and Skills: a. A high school diploma or equivalent. b. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory role; and retail experience. c. Superior customer service skills, a passion for helping others, and able to manage multiple tasks with little direction. d. Must be able to maintain order and cleanliness and maintain safety regulations in departments. e. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
7. Other job duties/expectations: a. Cashiering and training will be provided for backup support. b. Flexibility is required in this role. Work schedule will be different from week to week including weekends and some evenings. c. Other duties as assigned.
8. Working Conditions a. The Merchandise Coordinator usually works in the thrift store, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to nonstandard workplaces. b. Able to perform the basic functions of the position, including extended hours standing, bending, and stretching. c. Speaks clearly and distinctly to perform extensive communication required with customers, donors, employees, volunteers, and other third parties. d. Appears professional always.
JOB LOCATION / SALARY / BENEFITS / HOURS:
Rate of pay: $17 per hour; Up to 40 hours/week.
