Job Title: Medical-Surgical Nurse Key Responsibilities As a Medical-Surgical Nurse, you will:
Patient Care & Monitoring: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for pre- and post-surgical patients in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications, monitor for adverse reactions, and maintain accurate medication records.
Vital Signs Monitoring: Monitor patients' vital signs and respond promptly to any changes in condition, reporting critical findings to the healthcare team.
Wound Care & Procedures: Perform and document nursing interventions such as changing dressings, inserting catheters, and starting IVs.
Equipment & Technology: Adjust, interpret, and monitor specialized medical equipment to support patient care and recovery.
Education & Support: Educate patients and families on surgical procedures, post-operative care, and recovery expectations, addressing any questions or concerns.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical charts and health files, in compliance with hospital protocols and regulatory requirements.
Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare providers to coordinate care and ensure successful outcomes.
Discharge Planning: Assist with planning for patient discharge, ensuring continuity of care, and providing instructions for at-home care when applicable.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
Licensure: Valid state nursing license (RN). Certification in Medical-Surgical Nursing (CMSRN) preferred.
Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience in a medical-surgical nursing role in a hospital or healthcare setting.
Skills: Proficiency in patient management systems (e.g., e-MDs Chart, Mediexcel), and strong competency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of medical-surgical nursing best practices, patient care protocols, and medical conditions.
Attributes: Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication, interpersonal, and team collaboration abilities.
Additional Requirements
Availability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
