Job Title: Manager of Residential Advocacy Reports to: Senior Director of Emergency Programs Location: Northern Rhode Island Schedule: Monday – Friday 9 am – 5 pm, with occasional flexibility needed Compensation: $65,000 - $70,000, depending on experience. Basic Function: Provide advocacy, support, and resources to survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence who are accessing Sojourner House’s residential shelter services (Safe House and RISE, our shelter for LGBTQ+ and male-identified survivors). Supervise and help train full-time and relief (part-time) shelter staff. Provide oversight to our 24/7 hotline for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Facilitate relationships with community organizations and provide comprehensive programming for survivors and their children in our residential shelter programs. This position will primarily be housed at Sojourner House’s Safe House in Northern RI. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Provide individual case management services to participants in Sojourner House’s shelter programs, which includes our Safe House and RISE LGBTQ+ shelters. This includes weekly 1:1 meetings, regular in-person or phone check-ins, and periodic visits to their apartment (if they are transitional housing clients). Develop action plans with clients that outline goals related to obtaining education, employment, child care and permanent housing. Assist clients in obtaining appropriate substance abuse, mental health, and/or medical services as needed. · Oversee the 24-hour crisis hotline making sure that phone calls are being answered in a client-centered and timely fashion. Manage and implement a staffing schedule to ensure that calls are answered and responded to in a timely manner. Provide ongoing training and supervision to hotline staff as well as update hotline processes to ensure the hotline maximizes efficiency. Monitor trends or gaps in client services through the hotline calls that are received. · Supervise a Program Advocate and the RISE Advocate, as well as the Relief Staff Advocates and volunteers/interns who work with the residential program. Oversee the schedules for these Advocates to ensure appropriate coverage for residential programs. · Review all shelter intakes and communicate regularly with the Senior Director of Emergency Programs about possible admissions to the residential shelter program. Work with the Senior Director of Emergency Programs to revise shelter policies as necessary. · Identify and implement new projects and programming that will benefit residential participants. Work closely with the Sojourner House management team to develop new initiatives that will help Sojourner House offer the most dynamic and effective services to its residential participants. · Work with shelter staff to ensure that the programming being offered is reflective of the participants’ current needs. The Manager will facilitate 1-2 support groups, meetings or programs per week that will benefit residential participants. The Manager will regularly assess the needs of Sojourner House’s residential housing clients and evaluate the outcomes of the residential shelter programs. · Work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure that volunteers are being appropriately utilized at the Safe House and RISE program. · Assist, when appropriate, with securing donations for the Safe House or RISE Program. This may include working with local churches, community groups, and businesses to make donations of supplies (such as toiletries, cleaning supplies, and gift cards) to support the shelter. · Serve as the contact person for overall repair and maintenance of the Safe House grounds, including cleanliness. Actual maintenance will be undertaken by Sojourner House maintenance staff or hired contractors. · Attend meetings and community partners with other agencies working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or shelter service providers, as well as other community meetings. · Provide training and outreach to potential clients, as well as become a Qualified Professional Test Counselor (QPTC) for HIV Testing. · Monitor and implement Safe House and RISE shelter policies, and ensure that participants follow these rules and procedures by creating an environment of trust and community. Make recommendations for policy changes or modifications when appropriate. · Complete data entry and submit necessary reports for grant compliance. · Support Sojourner House’s philosophy of client empowerment and respect for individual choices. · Assist in the development and implementation of local public awareness activities/events concerning domestic violence. · Perform other duties as directed by Sojourner House Management. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: · Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, human services, or related field or related experience. · A minimum of three to five years’ experience in the human services field · Familiarity with domestic violence, sexual assault, and gender/sexuality issues preferred · Familiarity with hotline and crisis calls is preferred · QPTC certification or willingness to become QPTC-certified · Willingness to obtain necessary credentials to deliver educational presentations · Familiarity with LGBTQ+ community · Experience working in shelter, residential, and/or housing programs is preferred.
