Summary: This management role utilizes import industry knowledge to ensure smooth and compliant coordination of imported freight, application of proper filings and documentation, among other requirements. This role is also a resource to other departments for import needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervisory:
- Manages Import Logistics team’s daily activities
- Overseeing the movement of goods, including tracking and reporting on inbound materials flow
- Ensure processes are being followed and proper communication internally and externally
Functional:
- Manages relationship with freight forwarders and brokers to ensure best possible service and rates
- Point of contact for Import related activities across businesses
- Collaborate with Purchasing Leads and Category on opportunities and sourcing strategies.
- Work closely with Import Product Buyers to ensure best practices and stable product supply.
- Assist in quotes requested by category and purchasing.
- Monitor market conditions and be proactive to make sure shipments flow through with no issues. Address all potential and actual issues for all imports, air and ocean, as quickly as possible.
- Keep upper management and category teams up to date on market conditions and any potential problems.
- Ensuring compliance with customs regulations and trade laws – use of ACE and ITACS in collaboration with brokers. Follow proper procedures and minimize the impact when product is put on hold or requires examination.
- Apply for permits and licenses as needed and manage renewal process.
- Support the company in representing itself to CBP and preparing responses to requests for information
- Implement best practices with current tools, including import tracker and cost monitoring sheets while striving to bring the team forward in more automation and systems.
- Define and implement proper allowance to all products based on market rates to ensure all costs associated including tariffs, fees, foreign, ocean and domestic freight, are covered accurate and competitive.
- Financial Reporting and presentation to finance and upper management.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Cross-Functional Collaboration with:
- Purchasing: Coordinate timing of files and optimizing containers and general communication
- Category: Communication on rates and market status
- Warehouse Operations: Coordinate delivery schedule.
- Finance: Enable accurate and timely payment, provide reporting and review monthly numbers.
- Regulatory and Legal: Collaborate as needed with Regulatory or Legal requests that impact Imports.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited four-year college or university preferred
- 3-8 years Logistics, Transportation or Import experience
- Previous food service distribution and/or food importing experience strongly preferred
- Computer skills (Microsoft Suite – Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, ERP System, etc.)
- Previous management experience strongly preferred.
- Competencies and/or Attributes:
- Must be a team player with a positive attitude
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills and basic technology proficiency (Excel, PPT, etc.)
- Self-starter, professional, goal oriented and able to handle multiple tasks
- Must have a sense of urgency and be able to work under pressure, be comfortable in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment
- Flexible with the ability to work well with all departments and levels of staff both internally & externally
