THE OPPORTUNITY The Graduate Metallurgist Program is a 2-year program which gives graduates the opportunity to apply their acquired education in a gold processing environment, to learn from experienced professionals, as well as the opportunity to work for a multi-national mining company. The Pogo mill provides the ideal opportunity to develop knowledge of grinding, gravity concentration, flotation, leaching and filtering unit operations. This program ensures that individuals will be mentored to understand and complete key metallurgical duties. As part of the graduate program significant time is allocated to spend with operations, maintenance and mining departments to gain a full appreciation of the mine sites operation. Graduates who successfully complete Northern Star's graduate program will have attained the experience which can open up a career path as a technical expert for not only Northern Star, but for the wider mining industry. Bachelor of Science or Engineering Degree is required in Metallurgy/Materials or Chemistry from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Previous experience working in a mill, mine or other industrial setting is well regarded.
Ability to work unsupervised and display good problem-solving skills.
Good communication skills.
Must be able to pass a post-offer physical and drug test, as well as a criminal history and background check.
WORK SCHEDULE & ENVIRONMENT Incumbents in this position must be willing and available to work a schedule of 15 days on, 13 days off, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Harsh weather conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area. Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, internet & cable tv programs. Cell service is available when using Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
