Description: The Micro Lab Support Tech will support laboratory staff by maintaining cleanliness of laboratory equipment and glassware and perform other maintenance duties as assigned. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Clean and distribute glassware, carboys, and other supplies for laboratory staff.
Routine cleaning tasks, such as wiping benches, mopping floors, cleaning water baths, dusting shelves, etc.
Recycling laboratory plastics, paper, and cardboard.
Facilitate sterilization and disposal of biohazardous waste.
Collect inventory and stock laboratory supplies.
Follow applicable laboratory SOPs to make microbiology media.
Requirements:
Education and Training:
High School Diploma or GED
Associate degree or certificate from a college or technical school.
Knowledge and Skills:
Basic computer knowledge
Service oriented attitude
Self-motivated
Able to maintain focus on key objectives
Experience:
Prior experience in laboratory setting preferred
Physical Requirements:
Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms and shoulders repetitively to operate dishwasher and other lab equipment
Ability to stand for extended periods of time as necessary in the laboratory (6 or more hours)
Ability to frequently walk across campus to other laboratories
Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 15 pounds
Physical dexterity sufficient to move body frequently around laboratory equipment and instrumentation
Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the phone and in group setting
