Firefighter (Basic Life Support)

Duties
  • Responds to fires and directs the crew in firefighting activities.
  • Directs firefighters in placing of apparatus, adjustment of water pressures, etc.
  • Conducts a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of his condition and searches for medical alert symbols.
  • Performs work leader functions to include distributing and balancing workloads.

  • Pre-Appointment physical required and annually thereafter.
  • Position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a current, valid state driver's license to operate a motor vehicle up to one ton.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
  • This position requires the employee to work rotating shifts and 106 hours biweekly/53-hour workweek.
  • This position requires heavy physical lifting up to 45 pounds, climb ladders up to 100 feet, climb in and over obstacles and move charged fire hose lines.
  • This position requires the employee to maintain a current Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (CPR and AED) card.
  • This position is subject to recall for all firefighting emergencies.
  • This position is mission essential in support of unscheduled installation training missions.
  • This position is an inclement weather position.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) rescue operations; (3) detection, reduction or elimination of potential fire hazards; (4) operation of fire communications equipment; (5) controlling hazardous materials incidents and/or (6) developing, implementing or providing training in fire protection and prevention. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). In addition to Specialized Experience, the position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications:
  • Firefighter I & II,
  • Valid State Driver's License,
  • Driver Operator - Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF),
  • Pumper and ARFF,
  • Airport Firefighter,
  • National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) Basic.
This position requires that the individual possess and maintain the following Do D IFSAC or Pro-Board issued certifications.

Education
