Area Supervisors are key points of contact for guests visiting and shopping at Lehman’s and serve as experts in their assigned areas of coverage. This role will supervise the Housewares, Pantry, and Home Decor areas of the store. Area Supervisors embody a customer first and team first attitude. They are the primary driver of sales in their assigned categories - both internally and externally in the store.
Area Supervisors, along with the rest of the team, assist in creating a memorable guest experience by engaging with them in a friendly manner and by providing excellent customer service.

Management:
- Oversees the day-to-day operations of their assigned areas.
- Works closely and regularly communicates with the Assistant Store Manager and Store Manager regarding all initiatives, sales and team members related to their area.
- Create/maintain work schedules and provide management for team members.
- Assign and delegate tasks to team members.
- Handle attendance and performance issues.
- Write and conduct periodic performance reviews.
Customer Service:
- Intervene and handle challenging customers either independently or with the assistance of management.
- Address incoming emails, calls, etc. from customers.
- Study and maintain up-to-date product knowledge.
Operations:
- Drives both internal and external sales of all categories.
- Manage department gross revenue to meet and/or exceed sales targets.
- All communication with all aspects of the team including but not limited to Replenishment Associates and Sales Team Members, Store Management and other departmental Managers and Supervisors, as well as customers and business associates on and off site.
- Follow up on empty hooks and empty shelf spaces, communicating out of stocks.
- Ensure replenishment standards are maintained through utilization of replenishment reports and Outs program.
- Be prepared for doing product demonstrations.
- Ensure team members are on the floor as much as possible during peak customer time periods.
Product Management:
- Complete seasonal change-outs and price changes with Marketing, in line with Merchandising expectations.
- Ensure that product displays are always maintained, clean, and stocked full.
- Communicate with Purchasing/Merchandising team when inventory is low.
- Recommend retail pricing to Merchandising team based on competitor pricing, Lehman’s variable pricing strategy, price points, and identification of discount/closeout merchandise.
- Work with Merchandising to ensure like or related products are near each other.
- Communicate with vendors to help purchasing and to help resolve customer issues.
- Ensure that products are properly priced by use of audit or random price check.
- Understand different pricing or product configurations offered via the store and website (which may differ).
Safety: Understand and follow safety standards used by Lehman’s to ensure safety for team members and guests.
Other duties as assigned.
Education: High School Diploma or GED required; some college-level coursework preferred.
Experience:
- Previous retail sales experience in related fields required.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Prior experience with sales and service supervision is desirable but not required to apply.
Skills and Abilities:
- Retail sales - Ability to use appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to gain acceptance of a product, service or an idea.
- Customer service oriented - Ability to take care of customers’ needs while following company procedures.
- Communication skills - Strong oral and written communication skills required.
- Organizational skills - Time and material sales skills. Ability to keep accurate records, data, paperwork. Ability to attend to daily, monthly and yearly calendar goals. Ability to focus on goals to obtain a predetermined result.
- Problem-Solving ability - Ability to deal with others in a variety of situations, control emotions, and work under stressful situations while implementing viable solutions.
- Computer skills - Working knowledge of computers required.
- Language skills: Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and communicate effectively using the English language. Ability to draft reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Our store hours Monday through Saturday are 9:00 am to 5:00 or 6:00 pm (depending on the day and time of year). You can expect to be scheduled to work within those timeframes, with the exception of some stocking and warehouse positions, which may start at 7:00 am. Office positions are typically between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Saturday availability is a requirement for ALL retail and customer service positions because these tend to be our busiest day of the week, so we need to be fully staffed. Everyone enjoys Sundays off!
