POSITION DESCRIPTION: Assist the Program Director in the implementation/supervision for the Aquatics and Sports departments; through creation of flyers, rosters, project timelines, and communicating changes in program offerings to members and staff. The job consists of working with employees of various departments, volunteers, and program participants. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Must possess a cooperative spirit committed to the Mission and Values of the YMCA.
Will closely work with the Program Director to achieve the goals of the department.
Will be assigned schedules of guarding and instruction by the Program Director.
Will assist Program Director with work schedules for all staff, lifeguards and swim instructors.
Will assist Program Director in hiring, training and supervision of aquatics staff.
Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations in order to assure the safety of all participants.
Physical ability to use both legs and arms to properly use aquatic equipment to rescue a 200-pound person.
Physically able to see, hear and project the voice across distances.
Remain physically able to demonstrate skills.
Ability to handle irate, complaining or demanding individuals without internalizing or personalizing comments made.
Maintenance and chemical balance of the pool will be required daily.
Must promote safety by assuring equipment and facility is maintained and staff is assigned.
Will assist in marketing of all programs.
Maintain current program flyers and information at the front desk and assist in distribution to schools.
Report incidents to Program Director.
Carry out other duties as assigned.
Responsible for carrying out approved emergency action plans in the event of an emergency.
Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors and volunteers.
Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must be certified in PR/CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid.
Must have experience in various YMCA programs or other programs similar to those the YMCA offers.
Must complete all required trainings within 30 days of hire and renewed annually.
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must show technical skills in swimming instruction, lifeguarding and skills in supervision of others.
One year of previous supervisory experience is preferred.
Must be able to communicate with a variety of ages.
Must possess YMCA Lifeguard Certification (or from another nationally recognized certifying organization).
Should also possess Instructor certifications in swimming. Will require CPO certification within three months of employment and receive additional YMCA aquatic certifications as trainings become available.
