Specific job responsibilities relevant for this position include: Assembles and prepares the necessary equipment required for daily food service to students and/or teachers. Preheats ovens; obtains necessary funds (cash, change) for registers; prepares a disinfectant wash water and wipes down all counters and tables within the food service environment.Orders, receives, prepares, and serves student meals and does necessary paperwork for documentation of them.

Prepares daily serving and cashiering reports according to established procedures. Reporting duties include but are not limited to production records, freezer/cooler temperature logs, and bank deposit summary (daily cash, coin, and check revenues from meal sales and ala carte sales).

Using IFAS, will calculate and requisition food, cleaning and paper supplies needed from Central Kitchen warehouse/delivery personnel to be able to offer the meals as planned from menus issued from Central Kitchen.

Cleans, sanitizes and dismantles the serving line after the meal; properly stores leftover food and supplies according to D.E.C. regulations and HACCP principles; May perform basic custodial functions (e.g., sweeping, mopping, removing trash).

At sites where there are more than one Server/Cashier assigned a "Lead" shall be chosen to give direction to the other Server/Cashiers. May be required to perform additional related NS tasks as delegated by the NS Supervisor and/or Assistant NS Supervisor, or an assigned designee.

Knowledge: Basic food service safety and sanitation, National School Lunch Program regulations, basic food preparation, computer input skills, basic office procedures such as phone answering, filing, 10-key adding machine.

Training and Experience (position requirements at entry)
: High School Diploma or GED. Previous education, training, work or life experiences which provide reasonable evidence of the successful performance of the various tasks listed. Such experience may be evidenced through three (3) to six (6) months of cashiering and/or meal preparatory experience.
Licensing Requirements (position requirements at entry): Valid Alaska driver’s license. Must submit an "Alaska Food Worker" card upon hire.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools or utensils. The employee must be able to lift/carry up to 40 pounds, and push/pull with a maximum force of 22 ft/lbs to move objects such as milk crates, cases of prepared, frozen or canned food, portable equipment, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and peripheral vision and color vision.

Post offer/pre-placement examinations are utilized by MSBSD to create a safer working environment for employees. MSBSD requires such examinations for all applicants who have been conditionally offered employment in designated job categories. An examination may include a medical examination and physical fitness or agility tests. In addition, during the examination, training may be provided to increase body awareness during work activities to prevent cumulative trauma and reduce injuries.
