Production Operative

About Us
Cardiff Galvanizers (1969) Ltd is an established, family-run company that has been a trusted partner in the protective coatings industry for over 50 years. We pride ourselves on our commitment to safety, quality, and reliability, and we foster a work environment that values hard work, honesty and respect. As part of our continued growth, we are now expanding our team to include a motivated Production Operative who will primarily work in our Powder Coating Department while proving support to our quality team when needed.
The Role
As a Production Operative in our powder coating department, your primary responsibility will be to prepare metal work for the powder coating process. This is a hands-on, physically demanding role where you will be on your feet all day, using tools like angle grinders, files, and other equipment to ensure that the metal surfaces are clean and smooth. You will also assist with our Quality Team with essential tasks such as fettling, touching up, and performing quality checks on galvanizing work, ensuring that finished products meet our high standards. Working closely with our one-person Quality Team, you’ll need to take initiative and apply practical decision-making.
This hands-on, physically demanding role requires attention to safety, given the use of vibration tools, overhead cranes, and forklifts. All necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare metal surfaces for powder coating by cleaning and smoothing them with angle grinders and files.
  • Assist with hanging and positioning metal work on jigs to ensure accurate coating.
  • Support the Quality Team by performing touch-up work and quality control checks.
  • Maintain a safe and organised work environment by adhering to safety procedures and using PPE correctly.
  • Work independently when assisting the Quality Team, demonstrating common sense and a commitment to high-quality results.
What We Offer
  • Stable Employment: Join a well-established company with a reputation for taking care of its employees.
  • Performance-Related Pay: After three months, you’ll be eligible for performance-based pay, rewarding your hard work with weekly bonuses.
  • Skill Development: On-the-job training for both powder coating and quality inspection, preparing you for advancement within the company.
  • Overtime Opportunities: Increase your earnings with regular overtime opportunities (including weekends), particularly during periods of high demand.
About You
We are looking for an individual who:
  • Is reliable, hardworking, and committed to quality.
  • Has a good command of the English language (both written and verbal), enabling effective communication with team members and managers. This is due to the paperwork requirements of the quality team.
  • Is practical and applies common sense, especially when working independently on quality-related tasks.
  • Understands safety and takes it seriously.
  • Can work in a physically demanding role, using vibration tools such as angle grinders.
  • Prior experience in a production or industrial role is beneficial but not essential; full training will be provided.
Application Process
If you are interested in this role, please apply with your CV and a brief cover letter detailing your suitability for working both in powder coating and supporting quality.
