Colchester Borough Homes (CBH) was set up in 2003 and is an Arms Length Management Organisation responsible for the management of over 7,000 homes Our Vision is to enable customers, colleagues and communities to thrive, and we have created a dynamic Strategic Plan to help us achieve this. The Strategic Plan that runs from 2022-27 sets out the ambitions of CBH’s Board and focusses our resources on three clear priorities:

The role

Success in this role will require a Board Member who can offer drive, energy and commitment, and someone with experience of board level strategic decision making. Previous experience as a non-executive is not essential provided you can demonstrate other relevant Board experience.

You will have the ability to hold the Executive to account, take an active part in Board and committee meetings and build strong, positive lasting relationships with key stakeholders, including CBH’s “parent” Colchester City Council.

You will be able to serve as a Chair of the Operations and Performance Committee or the Governance and Remuneration Committee.

It would be helpful if you have experience in general business, financial strategy and accounting or of working in a regulatory environment.

Who we’re looking for

You will be committed to good, effective governance and demonstrate the ability to promote a culture of accountability, transparency, openness and debate in all that the Board does.

Have knowledge and experience of Local Government, preferably within Housing or experience in Asset Management/Property and Development

You don't have to live in Colchester or close by, but you must have an interest in getting to know the organisation and the area, and be able to attend meetings and other events in person.

For further details of the Role Profile,
  • .
  • There are 5 Board meetings and 2 Board away days a year and you will also be expected to join and Chair the Finance and Audit Committee, which will involve a further 3 or 4 meetings a year. Meetings are generally held in the evening and in person in Colchester. An average time commitment would be in the region of 2 days a month.
  • The term is 3 years with the possibility of re-appointment for a further 3 year term.
