Civil Nuclear Constabulary

Bisley

FULL TIME

Firearms Instructor - Police Constable AFO - Bisley - Surrey - 2024

£29,907 - £48,231 (Dependent on previous service) per annum + South East Allowance £3,000 and generous benefits package
Based at Bisley, Woking
Permanent, Full-Time (40 hours per week)

The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) is an armed police service dedicated to the nuclear industry. Our vision is to be recognised nationally and internationally as the United Kingdom’s leading organisation for the provision of protective policing for the civil nuclear industry and other critical national infrastructure. Given the critical nature of our work, it’s vital that we recruit skilled and committed professionals to our team. We play a key role in the Strategic Armed Policing Reserve and have been deployed across the country as part of Operation Temperer in response to terrorist attacks.

Our role in protecting the UKs national security is unique. This crucial role as a CNC National Firearms Instructor (NFI) will include supporting all aspects of firearms training delivery; the coaching of both tactical and range training; classroom-based training; designing training content; lesson preparation and AFO assessments.

You will support, develop, and facilitate the coaching of firearms tactics and weapon handling to a broad range of officers. From those on Initial Firearms Courses, to experienced Firearms Officers completing refresher training and specialist courses.

We currently offer 3 x pathways for those interested in joining us as an NFI:
  • Current and competent National Firearms Instructor from other Police Forces
  • NFIs with experience in the delivery of firearms training within the last 30 months
  • Police Officers who have been operational AFO/ARV or AFO/CT within the last 18 months and are willing to complete a National Firearms Instructors Course to become a NFI
Bisley Tactical Training Centre has undergone significant redevelopment this year, with the new, bespoke facilities due to be opened in December 2024. This will include a state of the art gym with equipment for instructors and students, new tactical training and personal safety training facilities and modern office spaces.
Bisley is a beautiful village and whilst it’s quiet there is plenty going on nearby. The nearest town of Woking is only five miles away, and you can also easily commute from either Aldershot (20 minutes by car), or Guildford (25 mins). Guildford is the largest town in the county, and it comes with a major shopping and entertainment hub. Families can also enjoy a trip to nearby Legoland, only 30 minutes away from Aldershot!
It’s also ideally placed to get into London, taking around an hour by car. Alternatively, you can catch a train from Woking station which will take you right into the capital. The major international airport, Heathrow, is very close by, and both Gatwick and Southampton international airports are under an hour’s drive away.
This role offers the opportunity and requirement from time to time, to travel and support with providing training to our officers across the two other CNC delivery centres, Griffin Park in Cumbria and at Dounreay in Caithness. We’ll provide you with everything you need to be able to visit these fantastic training facilities which will provide you with role enrichment whilst supporting the wider organisation.

  • Recognition of previous service for annual leave and salary
  • Enhanced family friendly and wellbeing policies
  • Free parking at all sites
  • Free gym at some sites
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Officers and staff also have the opportunity to join the national Blue Light Card scheme which offers discounts on a variety of products and services to those working in the emergency services, NHS, and Armed Forces
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion are central to the values of our organisation. At CNC we value and embrace the unique experiences, identities and abilities that each of us bring to our roles. We strive to empower everyone to bring their authentic self openly and safely to work.
Through the dedicated commitment of our affinity networks, ED&I team and wider HR departments, we are on a journey to embed our ED&I commitments, ensuring the CNC is an employer of choice; where everyone feels included.
