Your responsibilities
The post-doctoral fellow will work on the research project “Open Constitutional Democracy: Reconciling Deliberation and Constitutional Democracy”.
This project aims to deepen understanding of the opportunities and challenges associated with theories of deliberative democracy, and more specifically with the theory of open democracy. It aims to interrogate the constitutional, legal and institutional dimensions of this democratic theory to determine its capacity to serve as a model for future reforms. In particular, it seeks to propose a revised version of open democracy, integrating citizen participation while preserving institutions to guarantee rights and effective governance.
This project is conceived as a collaborative undertaking between Prof. Odile Ammann and the person recruited, as well as with other research teams at the partner universities. Within this framework, the person recruited will be expected to carry out autonomous and/or collaborative research related to the project. He/she will also be responsible for coordinating research with the other project members in Canada and the UK (project management), and for helping to organize a scientific conference in Switzerland in connection with the project.

Your qualifications
  • Ph D in law or a related discipline (such as political science or political philosophy). The doctorate must be completed or about to be completed.
  • A strong interest in interdisciplinary questions located at the interface of law and political science/political theory.
  • A good knowledge of the contemporary literature on open democracy is an asset, but not a prerequisite.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of French and English. Good knowledge of German is desirable.
  • A strong interest in academic research, demonstrated by high-quality scientific publications and participation in international conferences.
  • A dynamic and intellectually curious personality, eager to work in an interdisciplinary environment, capable of working both as part of a team and independently.
