Main Purpose:
We are looking for an M&A Manager to join our Team and be responsible for Trafigura’s existing portfolio of assets and running M&A transactions from inception to execution in North America. They will work alongside business development and trading teams and manage complex processes with stakeholders across the organization. They will take the lead on internal deal processes (including legal, tax, compliance, technical and structured finance), manage external advisors and the negotiation of deal documents. The candidate will be responsible for showcasing their financial work, including modelling, management presentations, and represent the deal financials internally.
The Mergers and Acquisition team within Trafigura is responsible for:
- Leading the execution of acquisitions and divestitures of long-term assets that help support Trafigura’s trading activity across oil, gas, power, metals, minerals, bulk commodities, infrastructure, power and renewables.
- Support the trading and corporate development teams in the management of investments.

Ability to manage a transaction from end-to-end (from initial / desktop analysis, through evaluation and internal presentation to external negotiation, financing and execution)

Strong financial modelling/valuation and analytical skills are critical

Ability to deliver compelling presentations, internally and externally, as well as being able to originate transactions through their network

Ability to build and maintain strong relationships internally, including with the trading desks, legal, corporate finance, tax and analytics teams

Experience and Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance or related field

7-10 years of experience in a trading house / physical commodities company or investment bank / private equity context

Strong understanding of one or more of the oil, gas, metals, bulks, infrastructure, power, renewables and energy transition sectors

Relevant M&A experience, including working on completed transactions, in one of the above markets is essential (ultimately one would be expected to become a “generalist” across all areas where Trafigura is operating)

Transaction experience on structured deals and direct investments on equity and credit

High proficiency in Excel, Word, Power Point

Fluent written and spoken English, additional languages are considered as a plus

Reporting to Head of M&A (based in Geneva) and working alongside another M&A Manager, with an M&A Associate providing support (both based in Houston)

High degree of integration with the US commercial teams, as well as the wider M&A group in Geneva

Close interaction with Management and Traders
The M&A team is directly involved across the breadth of operations of the Trafigura group of companies and responsible for investments related to oil and gas, metals and minerals, renewables, power and carbon (in each case, production, processing / refining, trading and distribution); as well as energy and transport infrastructure (including terminals, pipelines, rail and shipping).
