Presentation
The Department of Information Systems at the University of Lausanne (UNIL) is opening a full-time Graduate Assistant position in the areas of recommender systems, large-language-models and generative AI. Recommender systems are becoming the crystal-ball of the Internet, and the advances in AI can help make these predictive models even more accurate, interpretable and useful for the enterprises.

Expected start date in position: Early 2025, or upon agreement
Contract length: 1 year, renewable 2 x 2 years, maximum 5 years

Your responsibilities
- 50% minimum dedicated to conducting research towards a Ph.D.
- 50% of your time will be dedicated in teaching and administrative tasks. In teaching, you will prepare and supervise exercises and hands-on sessions for AI-related courses, and you will supervise student projects.
The candidate is expected to enroll in the doctoral school in Information Systems at HEC Lausanne and will be supervised by Prof. Michalis Vlachos (https://people.unil.ch/michalisvlachos/). The successful candidate is expected to conduct research and publish articles in the above focus areas. In the Big Data and Machine Learning lab, we aim to conduct impactful and practical research and publish our findings at the top AI and Information Systems conferences and journals (e.g., KDD, IJCAI, ECML, SIGIR).
Your qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Engineering.
- Willingness to do research in recent advances of Machine Learning.
- Solid experience in software development, cloud usage, prototyping abilities for the web.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills.
- Existing publications in an established conference or journal are a plus.
- Fluency in English. Fluency in French is desirable.
