Business (Operational) Risk Manager (80%-100%)

Are you looking to join a highly collaborative, high-performing Business Risk Management team? The Business Risk Management Team identifies, assesses, and monitors the business (operational) risks embedded in the business processes of the institutional investment management (Asset Management of Institutional Clients) business of Vontobel as well as reviews and proposes remediation actions to mitigate risks and strengthen the process resiliencies.

The team also supports the business, risk, and control owners, in maintaining an effective Internal Control System. As the Business Risk Manager, you will report into the Head Business Risk Management Investments (IN) / Institutional Clients (IC). As part of your role, you will directly manage internal stakeholder across business functions. You will also cooperate and have close interactions with Group Functions.
What would your role be:
  • Risk Controls Self-Assessment (RCSA) & ISAE 3402: Coordinate and run regular and ad-hoc process, risk, and controls assessments reviews. Support 1st Lo D in documenting processes, risks, controls.
  • Incidents / Issues: Assume ownership for the incident / issue lifecycle management, ensure prompt, accurate and complete incident / issue assessment, escalation and reporting for all operational errors originating in the functional area of responsibility.
  • Key Risk Indicator (KRI) reporting: Maintain, update KRIs and provide report to various functional and Legal Entity senior and top management and committees. Make smart usage of available technology (incl. Tableau, My SQL) to organize, analyze and display the data.
  • Outsourcing: Manage the risk assessments and outsourcing KPIs for the outsourced services within the functional area of responsibility.
  • Rf Ps / DDQ: Provide input for Requests for Proposal (Rf Ps) and Due Diligence Questionnaires (DDQs) as requested.
  • ISAE Type II: Support the Head Business Risk in coordinating the ISAE Type II Audit including the relevant documentation and sign off procedure.
  • Business Continuity Management (BCM): Review and update the annual Business Impact Analysis (BIA) and Business Continuity Strategy, support the BCM testing.
  • End User Application (EUC): Maintain inventory and perform annual review (i.e. ensuring proper documentation and clear ownership).
  • Operational Excellence: Support the efforts to further simplify and align the business and risk processes.
  • Projects / Initiatives: Support Group and IN / IC projects and initiatives.
  • Ad-hoc request: Flexibility for new, adhoc requests.
What are we looking for:
  • Industry experience: at least 5-7 years of experience preferably in an asset management or generally in the financial services industry.
  • Stakeholder management experience up to senior management, ability to work cross functional and across locations.
  • Ability to think end to end, run workshops to lay out end to end processes, key risks and key controls.
  • Pro-active management of operational risk including but not limited to key risk indicators, risk and control self-assessment, control testing, and control documentation, operational risk handling process.
  • Knowledge of and relevant BRM experience with processes across business functions of Asset / Investment Management including Operations, Trading, and Sales activities.
  • Ability to look for pragmatic solutions but also do dive into details as required e.g. for root cause analysis.
  • Comfortable in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and able to identify and implement control improvements as well as facing clients to support the sales process.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • IT and BCM risk management experiences, Outsourcing, ISAE, RCSA, KRI process knowledge.
  • ESG risk management know-how is a plus.
  • Analytical skills, experience in developing reports / dashboards in tableau, proven technical affinity, e.g. Excel, Powerpoint, SQL knowledge a plus
  • University degree in Business, Computer Science, Economics, or equivalent.
  • Languages: fluent written and spoken communication in English, German is a plus.
