Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a motivated, goal-driven individual to join our Data Center Engineering Operations Team! The Data Center Engineering Operations Technician (EOT) serves a key role as a cornerstone of facility operations, supporting Amazon within its owned and operated data centers. All data center equipment supporting customer services must maintain better than 99.999% uptime.

Key job responsibilities
Engineering Operation Technician is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves conducting both planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues. The EOT serves as an operator as well as a first-line resource reporting to a site’s Data Center Facility Manager (FM), receiving daily instruction from the Chief Engineer (CE) and interacting with third party vendors. The EOT maintains training compliance as related to their role of operating, troubleshooting and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment.

Stand-by emergency generators
Low and medium voltage electrical systems
Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS)
Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
Water treatment systems
Building automation systems
Fire detection and air quality monitoring systems
Server racks
Key job responsibilities
You will also be involved in:
o Assisting in the operation and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, fire/life safety equipment and HVAC equipment within the Data Center/Facility. This equipment supports mission-critical servers and must maintain better than 99.999% uptime.
o Assisting in the maintenance and monitoring of all Data Center systems to include incidents/events, problems, changes, monitoring, problem escalation/notification/resolution and all other aspects of Data Center support.
o Monitoring and troubleshooting all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, voice/data, cooling systems, fire/life safety equipment and generators.
o Providing assistance to contractor or data center engineers to ensure proper operation and maintenance of all facility equipment.
o Providing assistance to contractors or data center engineers to deploy new equipment, such as building racks, cabling, and other tasks as necessary.
o Performing site walk throughs to verify proper operation of Facility Equipment and Monitoring Systems.
In addition to acting as a Facilities First Responder to critical events, you will be a part of the team supporting new data center facilities and existing data center facilities!
A day in the life
Day to day activities for this role include;
o Monitoring of all alarms and systems involved in the operation of power, cooling and fire suppression systems in the data center.
o Planning and coordinating vendor works on site to ensure equipment is maintained and uptime retained.
o Supporting other sites and teams during events and planned works.
o Carrying out rack power up and installation duties.
o Monitoring and facilitating new equipment handover.
o Supporting new hires and team members through knowledge share and development.
o Event response and drill participation.
