The Launch Skipper reports to the Harbour Manager and to each CE for their respective boats and is responsible for managing all aspects of his/her area. KEY JOB FUNCTIONS: Operational Tasks · Responsible for launching vessels (Power cats & sailing yachts) · Implementation and adherence to manufacturing standards and standard operating procedures and production processes. · Ensure best operating practices are implemented and continuous improvement embedded within his area of responsibility. · Implement and monitor a catch-up plan whenever a launch has been delayed. · Implement and maintain the workstation maintenance schedule as per set harbour HO status report. · To ensure efficient movement of boats at the M-Beth jetty · Responsible for ferrying staff to and from M-Beth - RCYC · Responsible for the complete unloading and launching of the boat: · Responsible for arranging the stepping of the mast · Responsible for planning and coordinating duties for the cleaners and deckhands · Responsible to do pre-launch audits in the factories and do standard item list. · Responsible to communicate launch defects with the relevant factory. Pre And Post Launch Checks · Instrument checks · Ensure Mooring cleats are in tack · Responsible to do under hull survey’s (photographs) · Re-check the boat for sea worthiness before launch · Visual inspection of slings and positioning of the spreader bar · Responsible to check for leaks · Responsible for the detailed photographic records of the boat at launch. · Responsible to test equipment and systems to ensure safe passage to docking area. · Liaise with factory on concerns picked up before launch. Launch · Under hull survey where trailer supports were. · Take photo’s as the boat starts to lift and at intervals until the boat is in the water. · Record boats weight and write it in the commissioning file · Secure the boat to the jetty and take photo with someone on the boat · Commence with the check list. · Responsible to identify safety critical defects before launch QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: · Minimum Qualification: Grade 12 (with Maths) · Ideal Qualification: SAMSA Day Skipper with over 9meter boat length. · Strong knowledge of Raymarine Electronic Equipment (Compulsory) · Must have SAMSA day skippers with at least 2 years’ experience in moving yachts · Good working knowledge in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). · Must have excellent written and oral communication skills (including the ability to write reports). · Knowledge of boat building techniques and processes would be advantageous.
