Chemical Processor

JOB DESCRIPTION
This position is an essential part of Sherwin’s manufacturing team.
Creates and makes batches of product in the manufacturing process. Responsibilities may include making batches of paint by following standard procedures by staging, mixing, reducing, and/or shading. Batch maker is a standalone hourly classification within the production function within a plant.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Reads and follows departmental procedures (SOP/MSDS/SI) to operate and add raw materials to mixing tanks to produce batches of coatings to meet daily production targets.
Controls and maintains process parameters of blending.
Uses flow meters and pumps to dose resins and solvents.
Uses drums to dose solvents.
Performs simple chemical analysis to check in-process quality.
Operates grinding mills and mixing stirrer.
Operates pumps and filters to pack products into drums or IBC containers.
Completes appropriate paperwork and/or enters data into in-house system regarding materials, work-in-progress, finished goods, and other operations to ensure records and actions are accurate.
Moves large drums with the assistance of machinery-Forklift or pallet jack.
Opens, lifts, and charging bags of raw materials into mixing tanks repetitively.
Lifts and charging pails of liquids into production tanks repetitively.
Lifts, maneuvers, and hooks up hoses between pumps and mixing tanks.
Opens and closes valves, sets and activates flowmeters, which are located at various levels, orientation, and degrees of manageability.
Drives a tow-motor or forklift vehicle to transport drums and pallets of materials.
Assists with maintaining a clean and safe working environment and may perform various janitorial or housekeeping tasks by using painting and cleaning equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Prior experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus but not required
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Able to read, write and speak simple English.
Forklift license is mandatory.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Willingness to learn and an excellent attitude.
Must be willing to work on shift and perform overtime work if required.
Must be physically able as work involves some manual lifting and working in a non-air-conditioned environment.
Must be willing to work according to safety requirements.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, and other conditions found in manufacturing and laboratory environments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, typing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Very Heavy Work: Exerting more than 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or more than 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
