Principal Interpreter (Arabic + English)
The Principal Interpreter is responsible for the real-time translation of interviews and speeches into Arabic.
This position is a Full-time role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide live on-air English (and/or French) /Arabic interpreting for pre-arranged interviews and press conferences inside and outside News Bulletins, programmes, Talk-Shows.
- Provide live on-air English (and/or French)/Arabic interpreting for other live events like daily briefings, court cases, hearings, debates, etc.
- Responsible for preparing for events by making the necessary research for background information on the subject, the personalities and issues involved to assist them in their tasks during the live coverage.
- At major international events, interpreters are constantly required to provide live on-air interpreting at no prior notice and they have to be ready immediately once they are called upon to provide their service.
- Required to provide live on-air interpreting of speeches, presidential and vice-presidential TV debates and other campaigning activities.
- Required to provide live on-air interpreting for extended events such as Congressional hearings, UK judicial inquiries, and Senate confirmation sessions, which can last for several hours.
Other Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties relevant to the job as requested.
Education and Experience:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Translation and Interpretation or a related field in linguistics is required. Preferably, candidates will also hold a Postgraduate Diploma or an MA in Conference Interpreting.
- Minimum 10 years of professional practical experience in simultaneous interpreting field.
