About the opportunity
Southern Cross University is looking for an experienced Lawyer to join our dynamic legal team in Lismore. As a University Lawyer, you will provide essential legal advice and support across the University in areas such as leasing and property, commercial law, statutory interpretation and regulatory requirements. Your role will be critical in supporting the University to meet legal obligations and align with our strategic goals.
Southern Cross University’s Legal team reports to the Director Governance Services (General Counsel and University Secretary) and consists of a Senior University Lawyer, University Lawyer, Legal Assistant/Privacy Officer and an Administrative Assistant and is part of the Governance Services team based in Lismore.
Your core responsibilities as a University Lawyer will include:

Providing accurate legal advice, recommendations and assistance to a range of University employees and officers, including Executives, Management and staff on areas such as:
- General Legal Matters
- State and Federal legislation
- Policies and procedures
- University statutes and regulations
- Legal agreements
- Intellectual property
- Construction, property and leases
- Compliance
- Privacy
- IT Law.
- Preparing legal documentation
- Legal representation in tribunals and conciliations
- Case Management
- Education on important legal matters and contract management.
About you
You will be an experienced Lawyer, preferably with an unrestricted practicing certificate, a pragmatic approach and impeccable attention to detail. You will have:
- A degree in law and at least three years of relevant experience.
- Sound commercial and property law experience, with a focus on drafting and advising on a variety of contracts.
- Experience with IT software and hardware contracts, contracts for services, consultancy contracts, procurement contracts, funding agreements, leases and licences.
- Demonstrated legal practice skills, including sound legal drafting skills, the ability to manage litigation and to obtain instructions from internal clients.
- Sound advocacy skills and experience responding to or appearing before tribunals and statutory authorities.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and proven success in educating and advising internal clients on legal issues through accurate and clear written advice, training sessions and briefings.

Located at Lismore NSW, 2480. Location at Gold Coast Campus may be available for the right candidate.

HEW Level 8. The base salary ranges from $111,116 - $122,525 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation.
- The total remuneration package is up to $143,354.
