Department of Internal Affairs NZ

Wellington City

FULL TIME

Web Standards Consultant

Type: Permanent
Hours: Full time
Location: Wellington
Business Group : Agency Partnerships and Capability GCPO
Branch: Digital Public Service
Salary: $117,742 - $157,843

The Department of Internal Affairs/Te Tari Taiwhenua has a permanent opportunity for a Web Standards Consultant.
  • Are you a self-starter and team player who likes to collaborate closely on technical and standards-related challenges?
  • Do you have knowledge of and experience applying the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) or want to learn?
  • Are you a digital/web advisor or specialist with basic skills in front-end development?
  • Or maybe you’re a web developer with strong writing and communication skills and a passion for accessibility?
  • Would you like to help other digital practitioners and Government agencies embed accessibility and deliver online information and services that work for disabled people?
We need you. We are looking for someone who can work with and through agencies, speak and write to practitioners as much as senior leaders, to provide practical advice, assistance and support, driving capability improvement in the NZ Government Web Standards and the delivery of accessible web content. Working at the Department of Internal Affairs, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of New Zealanders.
In the Digital Public Service/Te Kōtui Whitiwhiti Branch, we work across the public service to connect, influence and support the system to take advantage of new digital opportunities. We also support the Government Chief Digital Officer (GCDO) to drive the government’s digital transformation and position government to succeed in a changing and evolving digital age.
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
  • Subject matter expertise in web accessibility, especially WCAG 2.
  • Skill identifying the causes of accessibility problems and presenting practical solutions in a detailed manner relevant to the audience.
  • Ability to self-manage and work closely with members of a tight-knit, fast-moving team.
  • Proficiency communicating technical issues that have real-life impacts in verbal and written styles suited to senior decision makers in government.
  • Strong analytical and advisory skills and the ability to think strategically.
It would be great if you also had:
  • Basic web design and development skills
  • An understanding of standards development processes, maturity assessment and risk assessment methodologies
  • Relevant domain knowledge, e.g., digital or ICT operations, information management, or consulting and the provision of professional services.
If you want a job where the work you do matters to New Zealand, we would like to hear from you.
We are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion. We recognise a diverse workforce contributes to better business outcomes. We are committed to creating a workplace where all employees have equal access. We provide a flexible work environment with the potential to work remotely and/or part time.
Applications close: 5pm, 6 November 2024
