As part of the multidisciplinary team, the Specialist Diabetes Educator is a lead member of the Education Team that provides comprehensive care and education for people with diabetes, supports the diverse education programs for healthcare professionals and the diabetes awareness activities and campaigns to the non-professionals in the Community. The Specialist Diabetes Educator assists in the creation, delivery, evaluation and review of the educational programs and supports the Diabetes Educators team.
Responsibilities
Assume all the key responsibilities of a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), explained in the Senior Diabetes Educator job description, as well as assume the below responsibilities
Provide diabetic patient Counselling and education, using the international standards framework (e.g. ADA and AADE), in a collaborative and ongoing manner
Initiate and participate in the planning, creation and implementation of diverse education programs for both professionals and non–professionals in his/her field of specialty and practice
Coordinate and participate in the orientation of diabetes patient education personnel
Assist in staff training needs assessment, staff development and provide in-service education as needed or instructed to
Coordinate with the Education Supervisor regarding the program curriculum and communicate with him/her regarding the curriculum effectiveness and the patients’ needs
Assist, when instructed to, in the development and implementation of an annual program evaluation plan and performance improvement activities
Keep current and updated with the latest diabetes care advancements, educational techniques and products available in order to keep abreast of the latest changes in the field
Maintain professional registration and certification
Contribute to the department’s goals for outreach and increased visibility by maintaining active involvement in professional organizations, such as contributing to newsletters and articles, delivering lectures at local, regional and/or international symposiums and conferences, and contributing to the development and implementation of workshops
Maintain active involvement in internal and external research activities including the publishing of articles and manuscripts in reputed journals and the delivery of poster and oral presentations at local, regional and/or international symposiums and conferences
Required Skills and Expertise:
A minimum of 8 years’ experience in diabetes care; at least 5 years spent in Diabetes Education
Strong communication skills and ability to mentor fellow team members
Computer experience including word processing, illustrated presentations, spreadsheets and databases is required
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
Bilingual – Arabic & English

Education
A nursing or a health related bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution. Master’s Degree is a plus
Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) and Certified Specialist in Insulin Pump Therapy and Continuous Blood Glucose Monitoring Technology
