Job Description
An opportunity now exists in Senior Architect for the position of Galway City Council.
The role of the Senior Architect is to lead the Architectural Services Department and play a central role in the development of Galway City as a sustainable European city in terms of best practice architecture and urban design. The Senior Architect reports to the Director of Urban Development, or such designated person(s) who may be assigned from time to time.
The holder of the post will have excellent design skills and architectural competencies. They are expected to have an excellent knowledge of current building control process, health and safety, planning and procurement legislation, as well as construction contract administration and project management. They will oversee the delivery and supervision of a high-quality architectural service to a diverse client base and work collectively with various departments within the Local Authority, other state agencies and the local community.
Job Requirements
Each candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms:-
  • hold a professional qualification in Architecture that is prescribed under the Building Control Act 2007, or a qualification in Architecture, that is equivalent to a qualificationso prescribed in Section 14 of the Building Control Act 2007 and
  • be a registered architect or be eligible for registration as an Architect under the Building Control Act 2007 without requiring further assessment. Any appointment by the employing local authority will be subject to registration under the Act;
  • have at least seven years satisfactory relevant experience of architectural work including a period of not less than five years, satisfactory experience in a responsible capacity as team leader of multi-disciplinary design teams and the administration of construction contracts as Employer's Agent or equivalent role;
  • have a good knowledge of the principles of Urban Design and planning and practice;
  • have satisfactory experience at a strategic management level;
  • have a satisfactory knowledge of public service organisation or the ability to acquire such knowledge.
