UNIVERSITY LECTURER
for the Oulu Mining School of the Faculty of Technology at the University of Oulu to be employed on a permanent basis starting from November 1, 2024, or as agreed. The Oulu Mining School, an educational and research unit within the mining industry, has a strong role as an expert in northern natural resources and sustainable development in Finland and internationally. The Oulu Mining School covers the entire value chain of the mining industry, including geosciences, geophysics, mining engineering, and mineral processing. The unit educates bachelor's and master's degree students in geosciences, as well as offering degrees in engineering and doctoral programs in these fields.
Job description
The teaching responsibilities of the university lecturer include courses related to geosciences in the field of economic geology, covering areas such as mineralogy, ore geology, petrology, structural geology, and mining and exploration geology, depending on the applicant's experience. The role also involves supervising bachelor's and master's theses. Experience in applying mineralogy and geochemistry in the mining industry is considered an advantage. We value expertise in the application of geochemistry and mineralogy in mineral exploration and ore formation studies, modeling of geological data, or statistical analysis of geochemical data. Pedagogical studies are also appreciated and can be completed alongside the job once it has commenced. The working languages are Finnish and English.

Who are you?
The selected candidate is required to hold a suitable doctoral degree. Merits include international peer-reviewed scientific research and publication activities in the relevant field, demonstrating familiarity with the subject area. Additionally, the candidate must have teaching and supervisory experience related to the field. Teaching skills will be assessed based on a teaching portfolio and a possible teaching demonstration.
Salary
The position will be filled starting November 1st, 2024, or as agreed. A trial period of 6 months is applied to this position. The position is permanent and falls within the university's salary system for teaching and research staff, on demanding levels 6-7. In addition, a salary component will be paid based on personal work performance (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component).
