Armour Transportation Systems is currently seeking a Yard Coordinator in our St. John’s, NL location.
Job Summary:
The Yard Coordinator is responsible for managing the yard operations, focusing on gate management, tracking equipment, and monitoring freight movement in and out of the yard. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining the smooth functioning of the terminal while ensuring that all yard activities are efficiently coordinated. The Yard Coordinator will be expected to interact with Drivers, Shunters, Dock Supervisors, and Dispatch, taking ownership of all aspects of the yard.
Primary Responsibilities:

• Gate Log Management: Maintain and update the gate log for every movement in and out of the yard, coordinating with designated evening, weekend, and mainland contacts.
• Health & Safety (H&S) Checks: Verify that each driver and visitor entering the yard is wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and address any issues as they arise.
• Operations Communication: Coordinate with Operations to ensure proper door assignments and direct loads within the yard.
• Yard Map Creation: Develop a yard map in collaboration with Operations to accurately locate specific load types such as logistics loads, returning straight trucks, empties, etc.
• Yard Check Report: Regularly generate and distribute updated yard check reports, verifying inventory with shunters and ensuring yard accuracy.
• Reefer Monitoring: Track reefer settings and fuel levels on the gate log and yard check reports, coordinating with shunters for validation and arranging for refueling as needed.
• Holiday/Weekend Planning: Work with Operations and Dispatch to develop plans for long weekends and holidays.
• Dwell Report Management: Collaborate with Dispatch Supervisors and Terminal Manager to manage the Armour and Oceanex dwell reports, preventing potential charges and ensuring efficient equipment movement.
• Trailer Bank Management: Coordinate with Dispatch Supervisor and Terminal Manager to efficiently manage the Armour trailer bank.
• Daily Audits: Conduct daily audits of the gate log using shunt lists, reefer checks, and camera tools to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Health & Safety Responsibilities: Perform daily yard walks, dock light audits, wheel chock audits, and ensure PPE compliance.

Additional Duties:

• Cross-Training: Complete cross-training for LH dispatch and provide evening and weekend coverage as required.
• Equipment Repairs Coordination: Organize repair work for yard equipment in consultation with the Dispatch Supervisor.
• MVI Report Monitoring: Monitor MVI reports and provide reminders for Dispatch Supervisor to complete inspections.
• Delay Documentation: Record anticipated freight delays for Operations and Customer Service to communicate with clients.
• Report Management: Manage MA ROBOT reports, LH updates, Oceanex Boat Arrival reports, and weather event notifications.
• Operational Pause Coordination: Handle the impact of weather events or operational pauses on trips and deliveries.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in yard management, logistics, or terminal operations is highly preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication abilities, particularly with drivers, shunters, dock supervisors, and dispatch teams.
• Ability to take ownership of the yard and all associated activities.
• Familiarity with freight logistics, yard equipment, and safety protocols.
• Health and Safety training is an asset.

Working Conditions:

• Must be able to work in varying weather conditions.
• Willingness to provide evening and weekend coverage when needed.
