Position Description Title: Student Communications & Awards Officer Department: Registrar’s Office Major Job Function: Reporting directly to the Chair, Student Success, this frontline position is responsible for managing and assisting students with financial questions and concerns. This includes but is not limited to, assisting students in applying for student loans, scholarships, bursaries, and awards (“awards”), answering questions and assisting with student fee payment. This position will work both independently and collaboratively to administer awards for students, in addition to other duties in this area as required. Duties and Responsibilities:
Receive, administer, and maintain awards applications, following procedures to verify eligibility as required
Provide general information on College services to students with financial need
Manage database tracking of application and reporting requirements
Assist with monitoring of scholarship and grant budgets to ensure annual targets are met
Communicate relevant scholarship information to students and staff
Develop communication related to financial supports for students
Ensure communication aligns with the College mission, mandate and goals.
Provide payment, refund, and award information to students that aligns with College policies, procedures and regulations.
Maintain an accurate and current list of awards, and ensure all documentation pertaining to the awards process is up to date.
Consult with others to develop award promotional materials.
Host student sessions to support their awards application and student loan applications and repayment.
Ensure compliance with all internal and external requirements, including FOIP legislation.
Prepare reports for analysis on student funding, ensuring strategic goals are being met.
Attend meetings, participate on committees, etc., committees as required.

Skills/Knowledge:
Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate with a diverse range of people, and to deal effectively with difficult, hostile, or upset clients
Customer service experience in dealing with sensitive situations calling for the use of empathy, diplomacy, and tact in the delivery of information
Experience with Microsoft Office - the ability to read and write formulas in Excel is an asset
Participate in College activities such as our virtual open houses, convocation, and career fairs
Critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines and adaptable to change
Familiarity with bookkeeping
Ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner
Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
Natural ability to work as part of a larger team, the ability to relate well with internal and external contacts
