Working for the Department of Psychiatry
Psychiatry is a department in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta. Our department couples basic science with clinical research to promote world-class investigations on issues relevant to mental health.
The Department also has a diverse group of outstanding scientists who are internationally recognized. These scientists are carrying out some of the leading-edge research in neuropsychiatry, mood and anxiety disorders, autism, and schizophrenia.
Position
The Research Assistant will work within The Precision Medicine in Autism (PRISMA) program at the University of Alberta, Alberta Health Services, and CASA, and directed by Dr. Daniel Moreno De Luca, CASA Research Chair. The incumbent will assist with clinical research studies of rare genetic and developmental disorders.
Duties
Participant Recruitment
  • Interviews participants and/or families to gather information
  • Explains the study and collect informed consent from each participant
  • Assists with recruitment of national and international participants
  • Performs phenotypic assessment using remote standardized questionnaires and surveys
Database Management
  • Establishes and maintains digital study database
  • Creates reports and presents to research team
  • Manages and inputs data
Other
  • Interfaces with clinical entities to obtain participant's medical records
  • Coordinates with collaborators and partners for the procurement of genomic sequencing information on study participants
  • Assists with study protocol writing and submission to relevant institutional review board
  • Interfaces with clinical trials infrastructure to coordinate future genomics-first clinical trials for participants with rare genetic causes of neurodevelopmental conditions
  • Participates in data analysis, submit poster presentations to conferences, and assist in preparation of manuscripts as needed
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, behavioral sciences, biology, neuroscience or related field
  • Minimum 2-3 years of research experience
  • Experience with computer-based data entry in REDCap, and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Experience with Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Meet)
  • Excellent organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Courses in research methodologies and statistics preferred
  • Fluency in English and Spanish preferred
  • Research experience in a clinical research setting preferred
