Can you type a minimum of 60 words per minute and have the ability to pass an RCMP
Enhanced Security clearance? If so, then the RCMP Detachment invites you to apply for this
position and join their support staff team. Under the general supervision of the Operations
Support NCO, this position reports to the Prime Coordinator/Records Supervisor located at
the Quesnel Detachment. This benefited position works a minimum of 26 hours per week.


Nature of Position
The Clerk II is responsible for ensuring all case reports are accurately reviewed, scored and
transmitted to the internal and national police databases. This position requires a working
knowledge of the Criminal Code, Federal and Provincial Statutes and Local Government Bylaws.
The position also provides clerical support for a variety of ongoing tasks to various sections in
the Detachment, and is the back-up for the Exhibits Custodian and Front Counter for vacation
and sick leave absences. The stress level for the position is high and the individual may be
regularly exposed to graphic statements, material containing descriptions of brutal acts of a
sexual or violent nature, and obscene language and gestures. Clients attending the front
counter may be hostile or aggressive towards anyone in a law enforcement environment.


Duties
  • Ensures case reports are accurately reviewed, scored and transmitted to the internal
and national police databases.


  • Provide accurate transcription of audio taped/handwritten confidential information
  • Accurately type letters, legal documents and court briefs
  • Compose correspondence in response to insurance, court and other legal inquiries on
files
  • Handle inquiries by telephone or at the front counter
  • Conduct queries, data entry and data maintenance on the PIRS, PRIME and CPIC
database systems
  • May be required to provide vacation/sick relief backup for Front Counter
Clerk/Complaint Taker/Pic positions including processing fingerprints through Live
scan and monitoring charges
  • May be required to provide MNI coverage
  • Will provide vacation/sick relief backup for Exhibits Custodian, including maintenance
of exhibits in exhibit rooms, management of exhibit queue in BC PRIME (refer to job
description for other duties required of this position). Position is classified as Clerk III
so will receive appropriate rate for this position when covering
  • Process outgoing mail
  • May be required to provide coffee/lunch break backup coverage for Front Counter
  • Filing of reference material, and administrative and operational files
  • Perform other related duties as required


Required Qualifications

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications, skills and abilities:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain RCMP Security Clearance
  • Must complete the Federal Firearms Verification Course
  • Must complete the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and obtain a Firearms Licence.
  • Minimum Grade 12 education
  • Proficient and accurate typing and keyboarding skills; minimum speed 60 w.p.m.
**Applicant will be required to undergo testing and meet this minimum requirement
  • Fluent in English and two (2) years’ experience in office procedures
  • Must have working knowledge of Criminal Code, Federal and Provincial Statutes and
Local Government Bylaws
  • Working knowledge of a police office environment
  • Must have a working knowledge of data entry for PIRS, PRIME and CPIC
  • Must have a basic knowledge of scoring relative to RCMP files
  • One (1) year experience on a multi-line telephone system
  • Demonstrated experience in transcription of audio tapes
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience with Microsoft Office, preferably in a networked
environment
  • Must be able to work independently with a minimum of supervision
  • Must be willing to work under pressure and with continuous interruptions
  • Remain alert, calm and collected in emergency situations
  • Ability to learn new tasks in accordance with prescribed RCMP methods and procedures


  • Ability to function in a stressful environment with exposure to graphic statements,
material containing descriptions of brutal acts of a sexual or violent nature, and obscene
language and gestures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Physically able to handle and move exhibits including bending and lifting moderately
heavy objects.
  • Must be willing to handle firearms.
