Job Summary The Package Equipment Operator will be trained to operator various packaging lines and equipment used to produce a wide variety of salt and salt products. A high regard for safety and quality specifications in a food grade manufacturing facility is paramount. Duties and Responsibilities
Operates bagger and assures bags are filled and coded properly.
Operate a forklift, or work with the Forklift Operator as a team to promote safety, quality, efficiency, and productivity.
Maintains production records and check-weighs bags as required. Adjusts scales to maintain proper bag weights. Is responsible for delivering salt samples to the Lab when required.
Performs preventive maintenance and minor maintenance work on the bag packer and related equipment. Will assist maintenance personnel on repairs to bagger equipment when required.
Coordinates salt flow to the bagging station with the Mixer Operator.
Responsible for proper and correct coding of bags.
Work from a daily production schedule to include special products, codes, or palletizing.
May be required to conduct or assist with monthly spare parts inventory cycle counts. May be required to conduct accurate quarterly package or materials inventory cycle counts. Monitors and routinely report on low inventory of package materials or ingredients to Production Supervisor.
Strictly observes GMP and Food Safety requirements; is quality conscious reporting all known defects. Pays close attention to coding, product quality, package quality, GMPs, etc. Strictly observes GMP and Food Safety requirements.
Perform other tasks as assigned by Mill Manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Minimum high school diploma, post-secondary education or other certifications will be considered an asset.
Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing and processing environment.
Experience with automated and mobile equipment will be considered an asset.
Must be able to work productively in a group/team environment.
Understanding of the recording of Food Safety Process Controls observations on production records/logs and how they pertain to the quality, legality and safety of products.
Carrying out the job function requires stooping, twisting, bending, reaching, climbing stairs & ladders, and lifting to a maximum of 25 kgs.
Environment
Varied temperature environment with exposure to salt dust.
Personal Protective Equipment is required.
