The opportunity
Tata Steel Minerals Canada is currently seeking a Plant Control Room Operator to join their highly skilled team to work a 2 week on/off rotation to and from the Menihek region in Labrador, near the town of Schefferville QC.
The main pick-up points are: St. John’s, Gander and Deer Lake in NL, Halifax, NS, Moncton, NB, and Montreal, QC.
Reporting to the Plant Supervisor, the Control Room Operator works closely with the plant's operators ensuring the day-to-day operation of the ore processing equipment.
To be successful in this role you must possess a strong mechanical aptitude. Previous experience working within a refinery, chemical processing or similar heavy industry work environment would be considered highly advantageous. Your strong communication skills, team orientation and commitment to safe work practices and continuous improvement is imperative as is the ability to work unsupervised in an effective manner.

Major Responsibilities:
- Control the execution of the ore processing steps by using the process control system screens
- Manage the alarms produced by the control system and take the necessary actions for recovery from problem situations
- Operate the ore processing equipment, if necessary
- Monitor the data and the fluctuations on the screens to check the running of the ore processing circuits and make the necessary adjustments
- Monitor the data and the fluctuations on the control screens and on the surveillance cameras to check the running of the industrial water treatment circuit and make the necessary adjustments
- Give instructions related to the adjustments required to be made on the ore processing and water treatment equipment to the production operators
- Assist the operators during start-up tests that are part of the lockout procedures
- Adhere to and promote company regulations and policies, particularly with regards to health and safety
- Perform all other tasks related to processing operations
- Mineral Processing Technician diploma would be advantageous;
- 5 years of Concentrator plant and operational experience;
- Some experience in a Control Room setting;
- Familiar with operation of Diesel-driven Generators from a Control Room perspective;
- Ability to learn and gain a full understanding of plant flow sheets;
- Teamwork in a multicultural environment
- Analysis and problem solving
- Organizational skills
- Good priority management ability
- Versatility and adaptability
- Able to work on site Fly-in/Fly-out Schedule (14 days of work followed by 14 days off).
