Kitchen Assistants/ Cooks- Hub Locations (Casual Positions)

About PEI School Food Program Inc.
PEI School Food Program Inc. is a not-for-profit organization responsible for successfully developing and delivering the school lunch program in Public Schools Branch (PSB) and Commission de Langue Française (CSLF) schools. Our mission is to cultivate a healthy and inclusive food culture in Island schools.
Casual Cook & Kitchen Assistants – Various Hub Locations
We are currently hiring casual Cooks and Kitchen Assistants for our hub locations!
Casual kitchen staff will be key members of our Food Service Teams at our hub locations. Working location may be at any of our following hubs on an as needed basis: Montague Regional High School, Souris Regional School, Kinkora Regional High School, Bluefield High School, Westisle Composite High School and our Stratford Hub. This fast-paced, rewarding position provides nutritious meals to school-age children. Day-to-day activities will include meeting the kitchen's health and safety regulations and preparing and serving hot and cold meals prepared from scratch to students.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare hot and cold meals
  • Keep temperature and sanitation logs and other necessary reports
  • Comply with health, hygiene, and sanitation regulation in the preparation, handling and serving of food
  • Serve meals to students and collect payment
And other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Current Food safety certification is considered an asset
  • A Culinary Diploma and/or red seal certification is required to qualify as a Cook, relevant industry experience may substitute for formal education
Professional Experience:
  • Minimum 1-5 years experience working in the food service industry, additional years and relevant experience considered an asset
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy items
  • Ability to work well with limited supervision
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Enthusiastic and motivated team player
  • Valid driver's license & clean driver's abstract
  • Experience in preparing large quantities of food from scratch, considered an asset
  • Adaptable to the needs of the students and the ability to be creative with food and menus for special dietary requirements, considered an asset
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control, considered an asset
  • Knowledge of food service, including cooking and preparing a variety of foods, quality standards and presentation techniques, considered an asset
The PEI School Food Program offers a competitive salary of $19.30- $21.57 per hour (+4% vacation pay). Rate of pay and position are determined based on education, skills and experience. The standard work week is Monday to Friday. For this position, hours will be on an as needed basis with no set scheduled hours of employment. Contact for scheduling will be made as far in advance as possible although the employees may be contacted on the day they are requested to work. Working months: September- June.
